I just came across these pictures of the kids on my in-laws’ swing set last fall. Oh how they makes me yearn for warmer temperatures! Spring can’t come fast enough! But since I’m constantly reminding the kids that the Lord values contentment, I’m trying to remind myself that there are plenty of good things about parenting in the New England winter, like:
- I now have lots of practice creating the perfect cup of hot cocoa
- I spend much more time cuddling the kids and reading books, since outside play is not an option
- Staying indoors has forced me to be more creative with crafts and cooking, since I don’t want to brave the winter temperatures to run to the store
- It’s so fun to snuggle a kid in fleece footie pajamas
- We have lots of dance parties with fun music so the kids can get their wiggles out
- We all get excited when the girls have a snow day, because then I get to enjoy all the kids at home – the boys are thrilled, and the girls are a big help with their brothers
Okay, I know there’s more, but I’m too cold to come up with them! I’ll keep brainstorming!
February 27, 2014, at 10:31 pm | I’m not sure what Susie was doing here. I honestly didn’t ask – I just told her to clean it up!
February 26, 2014, at 9:47 pm | I didn’t even ask why these three felt it necessary to eat their snack underneath the table. Some things in life are just more fun when they’re out of the ordinary!
February 25, 2014, at 10:28 pm | Bedtime can get a little crazy ‘round these parts. The kids think their life is one big slumber party!

February 23, 2014, at 9:35 pm | Jimmy, gazing at his beloved blanket: “So beautiful.”
Me: “What’s so beautiful?”
Jimmy, looking at me: “You’re so beautiful.”
(Good catch, kid! 😉 ).
************
Susie: “Jimmy, you’re cute.”
Jimmy: “NO, I NOT CUTE!”
(turning to me)
Jimmy: “Can grown-ups be cute?”
Me: “Um…yes?”
Jimmy: “You’re cute.”
Me: “Thanks!”
Jimmy: “You’re welcome…you not beautiful.”
************
Jimmy, while playing with a tape measure: “I’m a worker!”
Me: “Are you a construction worker?”
Jimmy: “No, a tape measure worker!”
***********
Jimmy, after I put him in the car to drive to pick up Becky and Susie: “Thanks for the ride.”
***********
Susie gave Becky a drawing she had made, and Becky responded, “Thank you so so much, but I really want you to buy me something.”
***********
Me: “Jimmy, never put your foot in something you’re eating.”
***********
Jimmy, singing the “ABC” song: “A-B-C-D-E-F-G, R-S-T-U- POOP!!!! Ha ha ha, that’s a joke!”
***********
Jimmy to Danny, as Jimmy crawled underneath the table with a tool to “fix” the table: “Don’t worry about me. I’ll be alright. Alright? Alright.”
February 21, 2014, at 10:08 pm | I think my parents knew what they were doing when they got us a two-sided race track for Christmas a year ago – they must have foreseen my boys would have trouble sharing otherwise!
February 20, 2014, at 10:14 pm |
I overheard Jimmy as he was settling into the display chair: “This is a bootiful day for a sunset!”
February 19, 2014, at 10:09 pm | Becky was proud of the mohawk she gave her brother. I think he was a fan – of the hair, and her!
P.S. – I took these pictures back in December when our tree was still up. I haven’t jumped the gun on next year’s decorating! 😉
February 18, 2014, at 11:26 pm | Susie is doing much better with her reading the last few weeks. I’m so excited she’s putting it together!
Becky is also doing wonderfully. She’s reading entire books to me with hardly any assistance. I love that they love reading!
Here is Susie reading “Go Dog Go”:

ABOUT US I'm blessed to be saved by the grace of God, loved by my wonderful husband Jim, and embraced by my twin girls, Rebecca Faith and Susanna Joy and my sons Jimmy and Danny. I started this blog in May 2008 when I was hospitalized for pre-term labor at 24 weeks gestation. The Lord allowed me to keep the girls inside until they were 34 weeks along, and on July 27th, Rebecca made her debut, followed by Susanna, five minutes later, on July 28th. We ecstatically welcomed Jimmy into our lives on April 25th, 2011, and Danny on August 31, 2012. This blog has been a personal journal of faith and motherhood and the only way I can remember which child did what and when. Thanks for stopping by to share in my Faith and Joy! Feel free to e-mail me at: [email protected].
