Gotta love it when the neighbor kids teach your kids new tricks – like fort tunnels!
Jimmy: “Can I have more noodle soup?” Me: “What?” Jimmy: “Noodle soup. What I was just eating?” Me, confused: “What?” Jimmy, pointing to cannelini beans: “These!” Me: “Oh! Those are beans. You want beans?” Jimmy: “Yes! Oops, I accidentally called them noodle soup. I apologize.” ***** Jimmy, pointing to a moth on the ground: “It’s not moving.” Me: “I think that moth is dead.” Jimmy: “It’s just sleeping. It’s tired and lazy.” ***** Me, after coming into the boys’ room when I heard noises at 10pm: “Why aren’t you asleep?” Jimmy: “Because I doin’ somersaults in my bed.” ***** Jimmy: “Most cars have no windows.” Me: “What are you talking about? How do the people see out if there are no windows?” Jimmy: “They have a little telescope that they can look out with one eye.” Danny has been our most verbal child yet. A few weeks ago, I started to make a list of the words he was saying, but I was finding it difficult because every day he was adding to the list! He’s very much a parrot and likes to copy EVERYTHING his siblings are saying, for better or worse! Here are the words he says a lot now, at 21 months:
tool (too) pool (poo) no yes (yesh) I poop (ipoo) Susie (doozie) Mama Daddy Bubba Pappy ball boat (bo) water (wawa) one more (wamo) more (mo) woof (his stuffed puppy dog) bug (bee) helicopter (hebopa) airplane (airpay) ride (ri) bike (bi) outside (owsi) shoe (doo) sorry (bobby) I need (i-nee) All done (ahdah) Help me (hel-me) I do thank you (daydoo) pee hi bye hot pizza (peeba) headphone (hebo) here you go (he-do)
Danny’s going to make sure he’s not left behind!
We hit the water for our first extended boating trip today (as opposed to our last sweatshirt-clad, lets-make-sure-the-boat-floats quick trip last time). It was a gorgeous day, and we were blessed to spend it with wonderful friends. We’re thankful for the sacrifice so many men, women and families have made so that we can spend our days in freedom.
Danny’s little buddy Breton was down from Boston for the day and even though Danny has a bit of work to do on his hospitality (he typically hollered in outrage anytime Breton came within three feet of him), we made some progress! Here is Breton with a peace offering, Danny considering accepting (although he ultimately declined), Danny acknowledging him by blowing a “kiss,” and Breton responding with a sweet “high five.” We have faith that these guys will be true friends in no time!
The pool was one of the main sources of fun for the kids this trip, and I have lots of pictures to prove it!
The kids got to see some old and new friends during this trip, like Tim and Erik:
And of course, we couldn’t get enough of our dear Alli, who tirelessly played with the little kids and helped out wherever she could. The kids are so blessed to have her to look up to! Nothing makes my kids happier than being with their cousins. So our recent trip to Arizona was chock-full of smiles and laughter and hysterical giggling (you don’t even want to know how much energy two sets of twins can generate at 5:30 in the morning!). But even though I would have rather the kids slept in a little later, it was hard to be upset with them when they were just so excited to be with their favorite people. :) As you can imagine, mealtimes with six kids aged six and under were full of rowdy fun:
Here were a few rare moments of sleep, still blissfully close to the beloved cousins:
This group shot is a little fuzzy, but I love how Danny is taking aim at an off-camera assailant, and how Katelyn has a stuffed animal perched on her head: Our flight out to Arizona last week was blissfully uneventful. Danny was especially enthralled by the planes: Jim’s parents were big helps on the cross-country nonstop flight:
Once we got to AZ, it was nonstop cousin fun. We didn’t let the crazy heat (or my girls’ crazy 24-hour high fevers) slow us down. We played in their development:
Went to a “bouncy” play place: Played ball:
Rented motorcycles:
And visited an awesome train park:
More pictures of our antics to come! I’m so glad the weather is finally warm enough for the kids to play outside with their neighbor friend! We just got back from a trip to Arizona to celebrate our niece Alli’s graduation. It doesn’t seem possible that our little flower girl is now a high school graduate! We’re so proud of the kind, responsible, Godly young woman she has become. Way to go, Alli! And as Becky wrote, “Happy Gragoowashoen”!
