From Belle, Cinderella, “Army Man” and a Fireman!
Since the kids couldn’t be as involved with the pumpkin carving last night as they had hoped (due to the fact that the pumpkin was as hard as a rock and I didn’t think it wise to allow the kids to hack away for too long), I let them paint their little pumpkins this afternoon. It was a glorious mess! Danny announced that his pumpkin had a “dirty bum.” The kids soon moved on to picture painting.
Here is Jimmy’s “skyscraper”:
And Becky’s brown-haired girl: And the white hands Susie got from spontaneous finger painting:
Which of course inspired a little copycat finger painter:
Fun times! As one would expect, the kids are VERY excited for the upcoming Halloween holiday. Even Danny, who doesn’t really know what’s going on except that candy will be involved, is thrilled. He keeps saying, “Me scare Daddy. Boo!” We’ve been keeping really busy with fall activities. The kids had a fun time at the girls’ school party, complete with face painting:
We recently had a fun Fall Sunday School picnic, featuring games – and yes! More candy:
We’ve taken beautiful bike rides through the park with friends:
Jimmy saw what he called a “camouflage tree” – I thought that was a great observation, it did indeed look like a camo pattern!
And tonight I finally got around to taking the kids to pick out a pumpkin. The grocery store had to suffice, and they had very limited quantities, but we still got a good one. We even got to take a little hayride around the store grounds, albeit in the rain (Jimmy still declared it the “best day ever”)! The girls were in charge of planning the jack-o-lantern design:
I don’t know if I’m weak, or if the pumpkin was super strong, but we had a really hard time cutting that big fella open. As you can see, our original sketch involving eyeballs didn’t quite come to fruition, since we had to battle for every cut!
Here’s the final product, with Danny approval:
I love these two pictures by Becky. One is a close-up of the sun’s face (“fas”), including hair (“har”), glasses (“glasis”), cheeks (“ceks”), and even hands (“hadns”) holding a juice box (“jos box”). The other is a Sun Family (“Famale”) – look how she made the top of the letter “S” into a sun itself! Seeing these drawings definitely “brightened” my day! Danny’s love of eyewear is keeping us all amused!
I recently had to wake Jimmy up in the middle of the night to change his diaper, so after I was done, I let him snuggle with his dad for a few minutes. Jimmy was giddy with excitement, especially since his dad let him look at pictures of cars on his phone. Jimmy turned over to me and happily declared, “This is the best day EVER!!!” Here’s a self-portrait Becky did for school. She completed the prompt, “The most important thing about me is that…” with the phrase: “I have good ideas.” I LOVE her answer, because it’s totally true! Becky is extremely logical, and she’s always analyzing situations and making insightful observations. I constantly find myself saying, “That’s a good idea!” to her. I guess she was listening!
The boys and I were coming out of a store after a long shopping trip, and as we exited the building, we were hit by a gust of chilly wind. Jimmy exclaimed in irritated surprise, “Why is it COLD?” I answered, “Because it’s fall.” Still annoyed, he insisted, “But why is fall COLD?” I didn’t have a good answer – I’m already looking forward to spring! Pappy, you’ve got another singer in the family!
Oh, and just another disclaimer, Danny’s t-shirt is ONLY a hand-me-down, not an announcement! He is NOT a big brother! 🙂 |
