Short on Snow, Long on Fun

As the kids were going to bed Monday night, Susie informed me that she was eagerly anticipating waking up to so much snow that she’d be able to create a system of tunnels to her very own self-built ice castle.  Well, she woke up the next morning, looked outside, and realized she was going to be a tad short on building materials.  She settled for snow angels instead:

The storm that was labeled “crippling and potentially historic” only spit a few inches of snow in our direction.  Others in Connecticut and Massachusetts ended up with the full brunt of the expected snowfall, and while my husband looked longingly at the pictures of their enormous snowdrifts, I was happy with our little shin-height powder!  In fact, it really was a perfect snow day – we were all at home together and simply played games, did crafts and took turns bundling up to brave the icy winds outside.  And I was able to enjoy it even more because I had done all my cleaning, shopping, cooking and laundry ahead of time in case we lost power for a few days.  Hooray for overhyped, underperforming storms!
