November 9, 2014, at 8:41 pm | I was tired of our house looking like this after the boys played with our old, dried-up playdough (can you see the scattered little bits everywhere?)…

…So I decided to try a homemade playdough recipe (using flour, water, oil, cream of tartar, and salt) I had seen on Pinterest. It turned out great! The boys loved playing with the new, squishy dough.
I was so emboldened by the success that I tried my hand at a second recipe, this one calling for a mixture of corn starch and hair conditioner. Well. It was a mess. And I couldn’t even blame this mess on the boys! I ended up salvaging it, and the boys really liked playing with this stickier, gooey-er creation (and it didn’t hurt that I ended up stripping them down so I could avoid grinding wet corn starch into their clothes, and the boys like to do anything shirtless!).
Then, after the fun was done, I put the boys to work cleaning it all up!

November 7, 2014, at 10:59 pm | Here are two of the girls’ most recent creations. They are quite the prolific artists – every day I find little treasures scattered throughout the house!
Here is Becky’s depiction of a sunglass-wearing-juice-box-drinking sun and a sad rain cloud (who didn’t want to rain all over the animals):

And here is Susie’s version of the “Kit” American Girl doll she is coveting from the catalogue. She got the outfit and accessories just right!

November 6, 2014, at 10:10 pm | Jimmy’s had a persistent rash around his mouth for the last month, and several doctor visits and prescription creams later, we’re still dealing with it. Fortunately, it doesn’t bother him much. I was taking a picture of the rash the other day, so I could track whether it was getting better or worse. This is how it typically looks these days:
Danny saw me taking the picture, and insisted that he get a chin picture as well. No rashes on this goofball! 🙂

November 5, 2014, at 10:45 pm | It may not have made a big difference, but Danny got his first haircut last Saturday, courtesy of his dad!

After:

Danny was exceptionally proud of his haircut. Kudos to Jim for making our little guy so happy!

November 3, 2014, at 10:11 pm | I was tickling the boys and Jimmy was squealing in delight, pretending my hands were spiders. Danny critically informed his big brother, “No spider. Just mommy.”

Jimmy: “I know all the parts of a car: the back, the head, and the forehead.”
****
Susie: “In the olden days, when they didn’t have trick or treat baskets, they used pillow cases.”

I was trying to get Jimmy to identity a shape as a rectangle. I pointed to the shape and asked him, “What’s that called?" He answered, "A window." I shook my head and explained, "No bud, it starts with an R. Like this, ‘rrrr.’" Jimmy responded, "a rrr-rindow!”
November 2, 2014, at 9:47 pm | There’s more than one way to get a cracker!

October 30, 2014, at 9:56 pm | Since the kids couldn’t be as involved with the pumpkin carving last night as they had hoped (due to the fact that the pumpkin was as hard as a rock and I didn’t think it wise to allow the kids to hack away for too long), I let them paint their little pumpkins this afternoon. It was a glorious mess! Danny announced that his pumpkin had a “dirty bum.”

The kids soon moved on to picture painting.

Here is Jimmy’s “skyscraper”:

And Becky’s brown-haired girl:

And the white hands Susie got from spontaneous finger painting:

Which of course inspired a little copycat finger painter:

Fun times!

October 29, 2014, at 10:49 pm | As one would expect, the kids are VERY excited for the upcoming Halloween holiday. Even Danny, who doesn’t really know what’s going on except that candy will be involved, is thrilled. He keeps saying, “Me scare Daddy. Boo!”
We’ve been keeping really busy with fall activities. The kids had a fun time at the girls’ school party, complete with face painting:
We recently had a fun Fall Sunday School picnic, featuring games – and yes! More candy:
We’ve taken beautiful bike rides through the park with friends:
Jimmy saw what he called a “camouflage tree” – I thought that was a great observation, it did indeed look like a camo pattern!
And tonight I finally got around to taking the kids to pick out a pumpkin. The grocery store had to suffice, and they had very limited quantities, but we still got a good one. We even got to take a little hayride around the store grounds, albeit in the rain (Jimmy still declared it the “best day ever”)!
The girls were in charge of planning the jack-o-lantern design:
I don’t know if I’m weak, or if the pumpkin was super strong, but we had a really hard time cutting that big fella open. As you can see, our original sketch involving eyeballs didn’t quite come to fruition, since we had to battle for every cut!
Here’s the final product, with Danny approval:

ABOUT US I'm blessed to be saved by the grace of God, loved by my wonderful husband Jim, and embraced by my twin girls, Rebecca Faith and Susanna Joy and my sons Jimmy and Danny. I started this blog in May 2008 when I was hospitalized for pre-term labor at 24 weeks gestation. The Lord allowed me to keep the girls inside until they were 34 weeks along, and on July 27th, Rebecca made her debut, followed by Susanna, five minutes later, on July 28th. We ecstatically welcomed Jimmy into our lives on April 25th, 2011, and Danny on August 31, 2012. This blog has been a personal journal of faith and motherhood and the only way I can remember which child did what and when. Thanks for stopping by to share in my Faith and Joy! Feel free to e-mail me at: [email protected].
