I’m so thankful my mom is here to help out with everything during the first few weeks of Danny’s life. Not only is she amazing with him (and with me in my sleep-deprived state!), but she’s immensely helpful with the big kids. Grammie makes everything more fun! She’s teaching the girls how to use ink stamps… She’s making books come alive with her voices and expressions… She’s cuddling on the couch during TV time… And she’s bringing new toys and games to entertain everyone. I’m thinking we may need to book Grammie an extra week or two here! The girls started preschool last week and have been loving it. It’s such an odd sensation to drop them off and pick them up a few hours later, not having an influence over how they were spending that interim time. I know “letting go” is an important part of parenting, and I’m not feeling sad or wistful about it. In fact, I’m excited for them to learn how to respect new authority figures and to play with kids that don’t share half their DNA. I enjoy hearing about their new experiences, even though it’s like pulling teeth to get the girls to elaborate on their day. I’m already getting the one-word answers to my inquiries that I didn’t expect to get until high school! Me: "How was your day?” Girl: “Good.” Me: “What did you do?” Girl: “Dunno.” Where are my “Chatty Cathies” when I need them? Not only are the girls acting older, I think they’re looking older, too! Showing off their Hello Kitty backpacks (I guess Hello Kitty never goes out of style – I remember spending way too much of my allowance in the Sanrio store as a kid!). Don’t forget about my big boy! He may not be going to school yet, but he’s ready to pose! Daniel Cole was born yesterday at 10:17 AM, weighing 7 pounds 5 ounces, and measuring 20 inches long. More to come later. – Dad
Well, tomorrow’s the day we’ll meet our baby boy, Lord willing! Tonight, I sat the girls down for a little pre-baby interview. You’ll see that Becky’s a little giddy and Susie’s a little tired, thanks to the excitement of their first day of pre-school (which went really well!), but they’re both thrilled to welcome their brother into the family. I went back and watched the videos that the girls made prior to Jimmy’s birth (here and here), and I just can’t believe how much younger the girls seemed 16 months ago. It makes me so excited to watch all my kids grow up together! |
