Celebrate

For many reasons (including my girls’ love of unlimited dinner rolls, my boys’ love of all fried food, and my love of anyone else’s cooking), my family loves to eat out.  Tonight, we had an extra special reason to celebrate at a restaurant.  Grammie’s here!

Big

Recently, I had to wake Becky up in the middle of the night to change her diaper.  She was still half-asleep as I gently placed her on the changing table.  With her eyes closed, she softly murmured:

“Mama, I think I’m learnin’ to get big.”

Although she’s still so young in so many ways (like needing midnight diaper changes!), I have to agree with her.  She is truly growing up, and I’m noticing it in the small ways throughout the day that she’s becoming more independent: getting her own water from the sink, finding her crayons in the drawer, putting on her own pants and socks, starting to tear off pieces of Scotch tape by herself, opening up her own banana…all things I don’t have to do for her anymore.  Indeed, as she so eloquently puts it, she’s learning to get big.  And neither she, nor I, would have it any other way.

Outdoor Air

Even though it was chilly out today, I was getting restless, so I booted everyone outside for a bit of fresh air.  We took a walk down to the mailbox, and the girls stopped several times and requested that I take their picture.  I don’t know whether they were being lazy or photogenic, but I decided to humor them!

After we got the mail, the girls wanted to play on the swing set, so I decided to let Jimmy crawl around on the grass nearby.  He was in little-boy heaven – happily covered in pebbles, sticks and dirt.

The girls sought shelter from the grime in their play house.  Jimmy was content to stay outside and eat bark.

It probably won’t be long before the girls hang up a “No Boys Allowed” sign.  I don’t think Jimmy will mind!

Practice Makes Perfect

My girls may have lost this round (even with blocking the goal with their bare hands), but practice makes perfect!

Biker Dude

I took these videos a week or so ago when it was really warm outside.  I couldn’t decide which one was cuter, so I’ll leave you with both!

My Little Mermaid

Here is Becky treating us to her two current favorite things: coloring books (red crayon only, please), and The Little Mermaid.  Her song is hard to make out in the beginning of the video, because Susie is also singing it in the background.  I know it sounds obvious to say it, but children truly are sponges.  They picked up the lyrics without any assistance other than repetitive movie watching.  I guess I should be showing them more instructional videos, so they could be reciting decimals rather than Disney!

Dinner and a Show

Last Saturday, my in-laws kindly watched our brood while Jim and I went out for dinner and a show.  Dinner was delicious at Red Robin, and although the show wasn’t exactly romantic, Jim did get kind of starry-eyed.  We went to a boat show!

We actually had a great time enjoying each other’s company.  And of course, the kids weren’t far from our thoughts.  We really wanted to buy these life jackets, but they didn’t have two of them.  I didn’t want to start a war by only coming home with one!
