Sigh of Relief

I think…I pray…that our family is all healthy…finally.

I wasn’t so sure as of yesterday evening.  Becky had been good all day Saturday, and so we decided to get out the house as a family.  We had all piled in the car to drive up to see my in-laws and got about 15 minutes from home when I heard an all-too-familiar sound of sickness in the backseat.  I turned around, expecting to see a sick Becky, but to my consternation I saw that it was Susie who had gotten sick!  I must admit that after I cleaned her up and we turned the car around to head back home, I shed a few bitter tears of frustration and self-pity.  I was not looking forward to another week-long stint as a nurse.  But thankfully, it must have been an isolated incident of car sickness, because Susie hasn’t displayed any signs of illness since then.  She’s been her normal, jubilant self.  I’m still watching her like a hawk for any turn for the worse, but as of right now, I am thankful we seem to all be in the clear.

Phew.

Muddy Buddies

A computer glitch prevented me from blogging last night – sorry about that!  It wasn’t going to be a very exciting post anyway…just more germs to report.  Becky is now on her sixth day of tummy troubles (which the pediatrician’s office assures me is normal for this virus), but thankfully she’s been in better spirits in the afternoons and evenings.  She did so well tonight, and I was so invigorated by the warm, nearly-spring weather, that I took the girls out to the park for the first time this year.  We were all so grateful to get out of this germy house!

The girls still haven’t quite grasped that the season change should be accompanied by a wardrobe change, so they insisted on wearing their woolen winter hats outside.  And I still haven’t quite grasped that warmer temperatures lead to melting snow which leads to soggy ground, so I neglected to insist that the girls wear their boots outside.

The end result?  A gloriously muddy mess.

Yes, the girls’ shoes are all but submerged in slime in the above picture.  The girls were so thrilled with their stomping grounds that I didn’t have the heart to stop them.  I guess that’s what a week of indoor nursing does to me – it turns my judgment into one big mud puddle!

Still Sick

Well, Becky still hasn’t made a recovery.  In fact, today was by far her toughest day yet.  She struggled to make it off the couch all morning.

By the afternoon, she had rallied somewhat and was finally keeping food down.  I was thankful to see a little spark in her eyes again.  She crashed again this evening, but I imagine she was just worn out.

On a lighter note, Susie’s health is still holding strong.  She doesn’t seem to be displaying any signs of illness…that is, unless it’s gone to her brain and that’s the reason for her inability to put together a matching ensemble!

Please pray Becky feels better and the rest of us stay healthy.  I’m hoping to give a more upbeat update soon!

Sickly Sweet

Becky’s still on the mend.  She’s not quite back to normal yet, but I’m hopeful it’s only a matter of time before she’s back to her crazy, goofy self.  Until then, my efforts to separate her germy self from her sister have been rather unsuccessful.  They’ve been cheek to cheek – it’s sickly sweet!

Model Patient

Becky came down with a stomach bug yesterday, but after a rough start this morning, I think she’s on the mend.  I really can’t complain; this is the first stomach-related illness we’ve had in the house in nearly a year, and Becky has been a model patient.  In the midst of her struggles this morning, she pitifully kept insisting, “I’m OK.  I’m OK.”

Becky has indeed found an upside to her illness, namely: Pepsi.  My mom (my blessed go-to nurse at all times) suggested I give her some flat cola to help soothe her stomach, and Becky was instantly on board with that idea.  Maybe a little TOO on board.  You’d think from her ear-to-ear grinning that she had discovered she could drink candy.  Which I guess is a pretty apt description of Pepsi!

Rewards

We’ve had no further progress on potty training.

But…it’s not all bad.

I get to keep all the incentive M&M’s for myself.

Susie (on left): “Silly sister, let me help you with that iPod game.”

Susie: “See, this is how you do it.  Push the button right here.”

Susie: “Don’t feel bad for not figuring it out yourself.  Here’s a hug for you.”

IMG_8025

Becky (on right): “Wait a minute!  You lost the game for me!”

Susie: “All in a day’s work.”

All Smiles

Susie: “Nana, would you like to see my naked baby doll?”

Susie: “Here, I’ll dress and swaddle him for you first.”

Susie: “Here you go – all bundled up!”

Nana…no words, all smiles.
