Science Center

My parents and I had the wonderful opportunity today to meet up with my cousin Sarah and her son Oliver at the Connecticut Science Museum in Hartford.  We had a great time exploring the exhibits and watching the kids play.  And we did some playing of our own, too!

Making the Most

We’re trying to take advantage of every minute with my parents, so we’re packing it full of fun activities.

Like visiting the pet store at the mall…

Reading good books…

Looking at snapshots…

Watching videos about baby otters…

Priceless

Why take a picture of a park bench?

Well, because it’s a visible symbol of how good it is to have my parents here.  I can happily leave the girls in their care and go out to run errands without having to buckle and unbuckle kids into their car seats; I can drop into a market to buy lunch without having to swat curious hands away from displays of chips and cookies; I can sit down on a park bench (pictured above) and leisurely eat my wrap without having to wipe anybody else’s sticky fingers or mouths.

Oh, and last but not least, I can walk into a Starbucks and smell the glorious scent of overpriced coffee without having to zoom through the drive-through and explain to the girls that no, they cannot have some of my coffee that looks (and tastes) suspiciously like ice cream.

Tall Iced Mocha with Whip Cream: $3.85.

Sipping the mocha slowly in silence: Priceless.

Happy Days

Whether the girls were playing with Grampy…

…we were all one, big happy family!

Lap Time

Oh, how I wish I could see my parents and children sitting together like this every day!  Why do the coasts have to be so far apart?

Yipee!

All I have to say is: Yipee!  My parents are here!  My mom got in yesterday and has been playing with the girls nonstop, and my dad flew in today from an overseas work assignment, and he stayed up well past his (non-Eastern Standard Time) bedtime to spend the evening with us all.  It’s so good to have them here!

Becky: “I have to show Grampy what a cool kid I’m growing up to be!”

Pappy-Go-Round

We met Jim’s parents at the mall tonight, and Pappy suggested the girls take a ride on the mall’s carousel.  He didn’t have to ask them twice!

Escape to the Outdoors

The girls have their second cold in a month, and our house was feeling a bit germy, so I loaded them in the car and headed out for lunch.  We tried out a new deli near our house, but it didn’t have seating for us, so we set off in search of a park where we could eat our sandwiches.  I programmed my GPS to find local parks and gardens, but the first place it directed us to was a golf course, so much to the dismay of the girls and my growling tummy, we backed out of the parking lot and kept driving.  The second place the GPS took us was a state park that consisted of a hiking trail located at the end of a narrow road with no outlet.  It didn’t look very picnic-ready, but given that the girls were mutinying in the backseat, I decided to park next to a nearby grassy area.  I wasn’t entirely sure that it was part of the state park and not someone’s front yard (and given the stares from a neighbor who drove by, I’m thinking that it may have been the latter), but I was desperate and hungry enough that I didn’t care.  We spread out my coat for an impromptu picnic blanket, and dug in.  Our lunch may have been a bit delayed, but it was still yummy!

Dads and Donkeys

I don’t know what the girls liked more: getting to sit on their daddy’s lap, or hugging their new stuffed animals from Pappy.  I do know that I never expected my daughters’ current favorite animal to be a donkey!  62ea8c75[1]

Playmates

This past weekend was so wonderfully jam-packed with friends and family that I didn’t take as many pictures as I had intended; but I did manage to get a few of the girls with some of the kids we were visiting.  I think both the girls and I wish we could have taken these playmates home with us!

Susie: “Us blondes have to stick together.”

Becky (on left): “I’ve got my very own brunette buddy, thank you very much!”

Jim: “I’m making sure Becky remembers that she’s too young to cuddle with adorable brown-eyed redheads.”
