The Many Faces of Rebecca

To the world, Rebecca may appear to be a quiet, sensitive child.  She’s shy around most adults, and takes a long time to warm up to people.  She can often be found sitting by herself and reading a book.  But such displays of introversion are misleading; Rebecca is actually a thrill-seeking goofball.  She’s loves the rush of adrenaline that comes with being thrown in the air and spun around.  She thoroughly enjoyed accompanying me on The Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyworld.  She becomes giddy and playful when around other children her age, and loves to be in the thick of the action.  And of course, she loves to make silly faces.

Here she is putting on a show for her adoring public while we were visiting family in Medeira Beach, Florida.  Note that Susanna’s expression stays basically the same throughout the series of shots.  Rebecca’s, needless to say, doesn’t.

Here’s her baseline:

Now she’s getting into the swing of things:

Now she’s letting us all know how excited she is to have her picture taken:

Now she’s mouthing off about something or another:

Now she’s making sure we get her best side:

Finally, she’s waving goodbye to the crowd.

Here’s looking at you, Rebecca!

Warm and Fuzzy

In honor of Valentine’s Day, I should be posting some heartwarming photo of the girls giving each other hugs and kisses.  But I’m not.  Because even though the girls did give each other spontaneous hugs and kisses today, it happened in the bathtub and I don’t usually keep a camera in the bathroom (but maybe I ought to start – I wish I could have captured the moment tonight when Susie decided I wasn’t doing a thorough enough job at washing Becky, so she took it upon herself to vigorously scrub her sister’s head and face with a washcloth.  Fortunately, Becky thought getting smothered by wet washcloth was hilarious, so it was all good!).

Anyway, since I don’t have an appropriate Valentine’s shot, I perused our pictures from Florida and chose the ones that made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.  Because what says Valentine’s better than a gushy, sentimental exclamation of “Awww – How cute!”

Like a picture of Susie who had fallen fast asleep sitting up in her stroller after a full day at Disneyworld:

Or a picture of the girls holding hands at the park with their twin cousins:

Or a picture of Becky looking up adoringly at her cousin Katelyn:

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!  I hope your day was full of warm and fuzzy moments!

Unpacking

We just got back from spending a week in Orlando, Florida with Jim’s parents and his sister’s family.  I hope to post more in the next few days about our wonderful time there, but right now I’ve got suitcases to unpack and my own bed to sleep in, so I’ll just leave you with a family photo.  More to follow!

Double Take

IMG_3189

Becky: “Hey look!  Twin sisters!”

P.S. – No, the girls aren’t reading Tom Clancy just yet, despite the book jacket lying in the background.  I’m not even reading Tom Clancy yet myself.  It’s from a box of books that I packed up to donate to the library.  The girls got into the box and have decided that the books serve a more noble purpose in our home as stacking blocks, projectile missiles, and peek-a-boo barricades than they would in the hands of an actual…you know…reader.  So by the time the library receives its copy of Tom Clancy, I have a hunch that it might be a bit more well-worn than they were expecting.

Backdrop

Becky (on right): “Mom, you really need to invest in a decent backdrop.  We’re clashing here.”

Useful Tip

Use #1,001 for a small child:

Coat Rack.

Literacy Lesson

IMG_3066

Susie (on right): “Do you know what book you’re reading?”

 IMG_3060

Becky: “Are you ill?  Of COURSE I know.”

IMG_3064

Becky: “Well, now that you mention it, let me just take a closer look.”

IMG_3065

Becky: “I bet if we put our heads together, we can figure it out.”

IMG_3067

Becky: “Let’s just pretend I can read and leave it at that, OK?”

Head Covering

I was letting the girls air-dry, when Becky decided she needed to cover up.

Just her head, that is.

Captain Underpants

Yes, those are Jim’s underpants that Susie has slung across her body like a sash.  Talk about airing our family’s dirty laundry!

Readers Digest-ing

What’s a better way to spend time indoors than catching up on one’s reading?

IMG_3079

Becky is perusing a Real Estate flyer.  She looks rather dumbfounded by some of the listing prices.

IMG_3081

Susie is keeping informed by paging through Reader’s Digest.  There’s lots of valuable information in there!
