Down in the Mouth

A little over a month ago, the girls entered that dreaded world of orthodontia.  They both have palate expanders on the top and bottom of their mouths (although the expanders are correcting different things in each).  They had the hardest time talking and eating for a few days after the insertion.  Poor kiddos!!

Shenanigans

You never know what you’ll see when you look in the backseat of our car!  This crazy kid was making glasses out of this “thinking putty”!

Lunch Lady

As the school year draws to a close, one of the things I am most looking forward to is NOT packing lunches at night for a few months!  I don’t actually pack them that often because the kids are responsible for assembling their own lunch most nights (and the kids also buy lunch one day a week, per their request).  However, on busy evenings, I sometimes end up with the job, and it’s so hard for my tired brain to remember who eats what and which lunchbox it should go in.  Here’s a picture of my assembly-line.  Lots of pretzels, goldfish, chocolate chips, carrots, pepperoni, Ritz crackers, granola bars and peanut butter and Nutella sandwiches!

Party Pics 3

The party girl was very happy with her pie:

And so were the big kids:

Our guests were very generous, and our kids ended up with lots of wonderful goodies!

It was such a fun night for us all!

Party Pics 2

We had a wonderful time with our loved ones at the party:

Jimmy’s request for Kentucky Fried Chicken was a big hit!

Tazie was VERY excited to have so many friends over!

The guys took turns on the toys outside:

Jim’s cake and Tazie’s pie (the girl loves her pie!):

Check out Aunt Mary’s enormous chocolate chip nut cookie!  It was amazing!

So much fun in one place!

Party Pictures

Okay, over the next few weeks I’ll hopefully be able to play catch up and post a bunch of pictures from the last few months that have been languishing on my computer.  If I don’t get to them now, they’ll be buried among our summer vacation pictures and I don’t know if I’ll ever get to them, yikes!

So without further ado, here are some pics from Jimmy’s April birthday!  At our little family get-together, he received his beloved mini-Segway among other awesome gifts:

And then we had a larger friends-and-family party with a Revolutionary War theme.  Leave it to Jimmy to think of that!

Oh, and the party doubled (tripled?) as a birthday and adoption celebration for Tazie, too.  Here’s the “gotcha day” banner from my parents!

And our lovely greeter, complete with a “Declaration of Independence” that our guests were asked to sign!

More party pics to come!

Farm Fun

We were blessed to be able to spend last Saturday at a church conference near Boston, and afterward had a beautiful evening at our friends’ home.  We got to meet all the new additions to their family – a cat, a dog, and two horses!  It was a dream come true for our kids!  Thank you to Ashley and Uriah for a great time!

Tow, Tow, Tow your Brother

My boys (big and little) just like to tow stuff!

Tazie’s Tiles

Magna Tiles continue to be the most-used toy in this house!  Now even Tazie is getting into it!

Here she is, proudly announcing: “I made a house!”

It won’t be long before her creations are 3-D, I’m sure!

Jimmy is Seven

(This post is a month late.  Oops!)

Jimmy is SEVEN YEARS OLD.  My little man, who seemed to entirely skip his baby years, is now so, so big.  He’s tall and strong and coordinated (and as he always tells everyone, he’s “most balanced one in the family”!).  He has a whip-smart mind and loves to point out the holes in other people’s arguments.  He is excelling in first grade, reading at almost a third-grade level, is whizzing through math and really just loves school.  He is still as enthusiastic as ever about nonfiction books and military history.  Right now, he’s most focused on the American Revolution and Civil Wars.  He really seems to grasp complicated alliances and battles, far more than I do now!  He still loves to ride his bicycle, his dirtbike, and now his mini-Segway.  His favorite foods are bacon, meatballs, pizza, basically anything salty and meat-y.  And as much as he didn’t cuddle as an infant, he has been known to cuddle up on his dad’s or my lap for a few minutes to re-charge before zooming off onto another project.  If I had to project what career he would be most suited for in the future, it would be a motorcycle-driving prosecutor with a side business as an excavator operator. 😉 .

Jimmy (or Jim, as you’re known at school), you amaze and delight us daily!

(Here he is posing on his Segway with his Cinco de Mayo gear!)
