Memory Lane

I  don’t expect this post to be of interest to anyone other than immediate family, but since this blog serves as my only “baby book,” I figured I would document my recent trip down memory lane.  I was going through some old children’s toys and books (many of which I hadn’t unpacked since our last moved, whoops!), and these few items loomed large in my memories of my kids early years.  I know I’m already forgetting things about their childhood that I swore I would always remember, so I guess I’m feeling the need to write it all down while I can.

This LeapFrog activity table was an awesome toy that entertained all four kids, occasionally all at the same time!

This was the book that Jim and I read or recited to the girls nearly EVERY NIGHT of their lives, and we now recite to the boys before bed.  It’s a simple little book, but it’s always ushered our kids into peaceful dreams.    photo IMG_7913.jpg photo IMG_7914.jpg   photo IMG_7916.jpg photo IMG_7917.jpg photo IMG_7918.jpg photo IMG_7919.jpg photo IMG_7920.jpg photo IMG_7921.jpg photo IMG_7922.jpg photo IMG_7923.jpg

This book, a collection of stories written and illustrated by Eloise Wilkin, was a lifesaver for me during many hours of church.  The girls would sit, enraptured by the beautiful pictures, and would give me a few moments of peace while I would listen to the prayers and preaching.  I’ve brought the book out for the boys, hoping it will have the same captivating effect on them! (So far, no luck!).

And this book was the book responsible for turning Jimmy into a book lover.  It was a chunky Thomas the Tank Engine board book we checked out of the library, and never checked back in because Jimmy loved it to smithereens.  I don’t remember exactly how old he was when he finally started liking to look at books, but I think it was somewhere around 18-24 months old.  I was SO relieved and excited when he finally started paying attention to all those books I was reading to him!

Get Well

A dear friend of ours was suddenly hospitalized for health concerns.  When I informed the girls about his condition, they got right to work making him a card.  But one card wasn’t enough for such a special guy – Becky and Susie created hearts, a plane, and several get-well signs.  We’re thankful that he’s recovering well, and we hope that the girls’ creations put a smile on his face!

Here are my little artists:

And here is one of my delivery men, faithfully bringing the envelope to the mailbox (it’s not too hard to ride with no hands when you don’t have to do any pedaling yourself!):

Our love and prayers are with him and his family.  We love you all!

Rolling Along

We took the kids bike riding a few evenings ago, and Jim decided to rollerblade alongside the kids.  Jimmy was quite inspired, so today he dragged out his dad’s rollerblades to give it a whirl:

(Needless to say, Jimmy’s subsequent attempt at TWO rollerblades did not end well!)

No, I don’t typically make my boys wear helmets just walking around. They had just hopped off their bikes and followed their sisters to the swing set.  I figured I’d let them leave the helmets on – it couldn’t hurt, especially when Jimmy jumps off the swing or Danny gets too close to the swingers!

In Control

Danny will only sit and watch a TV show if he’s allowed to hold a remote while watching.  He’s such a little man!

Cake Pops

It seems like only yesterday I was introducing the girls to Starbucks’ cake pops.  Now the boys are happy to be passed the torch…or make that the stick. 🙂

Bike Park

We’ve been spending a lot of time at a local park where the kids can practice riding their bikes (with training wheels). Our pace is awfully slow since Danny likes to poke at ants and gape at airplanes, but we all enjoy being outside, especially with our friends!

A Girl and Her Fluffy

When my sister went to Peru last year, she brought the girls stuffed animals made from real llama fur.  Susie has sworn her undying love to the toy, and announced to me the other day that she was going to bring it to her new house when she gets married, and to the hospital when she has babies.

So Aunt Angie, you’re going to have to try really hard the next time you travel internationally if you want to top that gift.  Maybe you need to fly to Australia and bring us back some pet koalas!

Play Day

The girls had “Play Day” at their school last week (which I guess is along the lines of what I called Field Day).  They had all sorts of outdoor games, including one I think sounds great: You play duck-duck-goose, only when it’s time to choose the goose, you hold a wet sponge over their head and soak them!

Here they are, ready for action!
