It’s not too often I get the four kids sitting still side-by-side, but putting on a TV show will entrance the older kids for a bit, and Danny usually stays still for the first thirty seconds or so!
Little brothers make good bookmarks:
I think we need to get Susie a real desk and chair, since she’s precariously cobbled together a toy crate and a step stool, pulled them up to a side table, hung her purse on a lamp and brought along a jewelry box and a box of tissues (and don’t ask me what Jimmy is doing in the background!):
We had a fun-filled weekend of celebrations around here! First, my friends treated me to a wonderful birthday dinner where I laughed and ate and laughed some more:
Then, we went on a family hike: And took the boat out for the first time. It felt SO good to be back on the water, even if it was too cold to be IN the water! Finally, we capped everything off with a lovely Easter dinner and egg hunt at my in-laws’ house. We ate and laughed a lot there, too! It was the perfect weekend! Last week, after a night of heavy rains, the boys and I went on a puddle-jumping/worm-hunting/mud-caking expedition. We started off with a vigorous ride:
Then we abandoned our vehicles in search of some puddles:
Then we spotted an earthworm. That poor waterlogged creature had no idea how much joy he brought to my two bug-loving boys! We tried to locate more wiggly critters, but gave up and just played in the mud instead: Then we finished up our adventure with some rock shoveling. And then I put the boys to bed for a nap and I did lots of muddy laundry! The girls recently had their Kindergarten spring concert. I had SO much fun watching them up on stage! Susie was grinning from ear-to-ear the whole performance, getting really into the motions, and Becky smiled nervously and was a bit more timid with her singing and dancing. But they both really had a good time, and so did their brothers watching them. Between all the slack-jawed siblings and camera-wielding parents and grandparents, we were a very appreciative audience!
We spent a wonderful weekend attending a nearby church conference. Every year these conferences get a little easier as the kids get older; so much so that I even got to listen to a bit of the ministry while the girls were busily working on their new Frozen coloring books, Danny was sleeping in his Bubba’s arms, and Jimmy was digging through my purse for something to distract him. It’s just a wonderful experience to be surrounded by so many fellow saints, especially ones who we don’t get to see as often as we would like. After today’s meetings, we took advantage of the warm spring evening and went for a stroll. We weren’t dressed in ideal walking gear since we were all still in our church clothes, but it was so nice to be outside, I didn’t mind having to scrub dirt off of the boys’ dress pants! Here we are walking: And here’s Susie striking a pose:
And here’s Danny copying his sister’s pose in the background, Susie being silly, Jimmy in mid-air, Becky wondering why we weren’t going faster, and Jim wondering how he ended up with such a goofy family! A while back, while I was driving with the boys in the back seat, I noticed a single shoe lying by the side of the road. I remarked on it, and wondered aloud how it got there. I hypothesized that maybe someone in a car took off their shoe to swat a bug and then accidentally dropped it out the window. Jimmy thought for a moment, then announced, “When I grow up I’m going to be a shoe thrower. I’m going to drive, drive, drive to somebody’s house. If they not want their shoes, I’m going to drive, drive, drive and throw them out the window.” ****** Jimmy: “When I grow up, I’m going to be a bobcat walker.” (I guess that’s better than a shoe thrower?) ****** Jimmy, to me, while I paused during our walk outside: “What are you doing?” Me: “I’m trying to figure out what animal is making that noise in the bush there.” Jimmy: “Maybe a giraffe?” ****** Jimmy: “If I see a spider, I will say, ‘Hi!’ If I see a beetle, I will say ‘Hi!’ If I see a stink bug, I won’t say ‘Hi’ ‘cause stink bugs pee and poop.” ****** Jimmy: “Mommy, come quick! There’s something with 8 legs!” Me: “Oh! Is it a spider?” Jimmy: “No. It has a bum.” (It was a spider). |
