May 6, 2014, at 10:54 pm | We are having so much fun with my parents here! Every day when they wake up and go to sleep, the kids ask me how many more days Grammie and Grandpa get to stay. It’s a dream come true for us all to have them here for a full week!
We are taking full advantage of having my dad here for this visit. Just look at all he’s done for us in the past few days!
Early morning Bible study:

Woodworking instruction:

Computer tutorials:

Home renovation projects:

And of course, roughhousing:
We’re keeping him busy!
May 5, 2014, at 10:42 pm | For Jimmy’s birthday, we did a Spiderman/Despicable Me/Mama-was-too-disorganized-to-pick-a-coherent-theme, and it was so much fun! Here’s the extent of my decorating:

Paper masks provided all the fun and games we needed!

Well, masks and a minion:

How many men does it take to hang a minion?

The kids were all enthusiastic minion-manglers:

The merrily mangled minion:

Jimmy and the cute Costco cake he’s been pining for all year:

And since it didn’t even cross my mind to buy candles, we improvised. It was a very sparkly event!

And the gifts! Oh, the gifts! Both sets of grandparents were very generous, so Jimmy was awash in more toys than you could shake a stick at. Or shake a brother at:

Including his very own “big boy bike” that he proceeded to expertly pedal around the house for the remainder of the evening:

We all had a great time, especially the girls, since some of their favorite people were there!

Hooray for celebrations filled with bright balloons, great friends, and kids who are growing up too fast!

May 4, 2014, at 10:29 pm | Grammie and Grampa are here!
I’m excited they were able to be here for Jimmy’s third birthday party. Pictures to come!
May 2, 2014, at 11:14 pm | I can’t imagine a better morning activity than having my boys throw rocks in a storm drain. They loved it!

April 30, 2014, at 9:26 pm | Here’s an interview with Jimmy about his favorite things, now that he’s a big 3 year old!
And just because I love it so much, here’s a picture of the card my sister sent to Jimmy for his birthday. Everybody should have such an fun, encouraging Aunt!

April 29, 2014, at 6:56 am | So Jimmy is three years old now. Which on one hand, sounds so old…and on the other hand, I feel like he’s already five old because he keeps up with his big sisters so well. He talks CONSTANTLY (although not super articulately – the trick to understanding him is to realize that very few of his beginning consonants are correct. For instance, he says “bong” for “song” and “bone” for “phone,” “bink” for “think,” and he has an adorable lisp). He’s very cuddly and affectionate, which is surprising because he was not that way as an infant – he was so wiggly and strong. He’s still wiggly and strong, but he gladly comes over for kisses and hugs. He loves to sit in my lap and have me read to him for as long as I’m able, but he will not look at a book without someone reading it to him. He has no desire just to look at pictures! He has an impish gleam in his eye and a sense of humor that cracks me up every day. He’s insanely optimistic, except when it comes to cleaning up his self-made messes. Then he looks at all the spilled toys or cheerios or milk and mournfully says, “It’s gonna take a yong, yong, time to keen” (“It’s gonna take a long, long time to clean). He’s incredibly coordinated, and is already learning to pedal his sister’s bike with training wheels, and can scooter very well. He loves construction equipment, motorycles, cars, ATVs, snowmobiles, anything with a loud engine. He loves to help me prepare meals, and he loves to help me clean as long as it involves a tool, like a spray bottle or vaccuum or mop. His favorite TV show right now is Octonauts, and his favorite movie is either Frozen or Despicable Me. He’s potty trained during the day, all on his own. He loves being around his big sisters (and more and more, his little brother). He thinks his dad, Pappy and Grampa all hung the moon. He is a slobbery, giggly ball of good-natured energy. He sleeps well, eats well, plays well, and is just generally a joy to be around. I can’t get enough of that kid!
Here’s Jimmy getting woken up on his birthday by Susie, who made him this card (“Happy Birthday Jimmy – You are the sweetest kid in the world.”):

We love you, Jimmy!!

April 25, 2014, at 10:03 pm | Becky, to Susie: “You do not want to marry a policeman.”
Susie: “Why?”
Becky: “Because he’ll pull you over!”
*******
Dad, prompting the kids to remember my birthday, which was the day before Easter: “Does anybody know what day it is?”
Becky: “Good Saturday?”
*******
Susie presented me with an Easter package she hadn’t yet been given permission to open and said, “I accidentally cut it open with scissors.”
********
The kids had asked me how many people were in the world. We did some investigating, and I told them the current number.
Susie responded: “That means we have a lot of friends to meet.”
April 24, 2014, at 9:40 pm | When Jim was on his way home from work this evening, I asked him to pick up a balloon for Jimmy’s birthday tomorrow. He made a detour to a party supply store and after the kids were in bed, he brought in this awesome Spiderman balloon:
And then Jim proceeded to unload a bag of goodies he got for all the kids, including necklaces, Pez dispensers, maracas, and little noisemakers. The kids are going to be so excited! He’s such a fun dad!

ABOUT US I'm blessed to be saved by the grace of God, loved by my wonderful husband Jim, and embraced by my twin girls, Rebecca Faith and Susanna Joy and my sons Jimmy and Danny. I started this blog in May 2008 when I was hospitalized for pre-term labor at 24 weeks gestation. The Lord allowed me to keep the girls inside until they were 34 weeks along, and on July 27th, Rebecca made her debut, followed by Susanna, five minutes later, on July 28th. We ecstatically welcomed Jimmy into our lives on April 25th, 2011, and Danny on August 31, 2012. This blog has been a personal journal of faith and motherhood and the only way I can remember which child did what and when. Thanks for stopping by to share in my Faith and Joy! Feel free to e-mail me at: [email protected].
