Giving Thanks

Our family has so much to be thankful for.  So much.  And Jim and I are trying to raise our children to appreciate how blessed we are.  So when I saw a craft about thankfulness in Family Fun magazine that looked so simple even I could complete it, I decided to go ahead and try my non-crafty hand at it.

First I wrapped a Styrofoam ring with strips of fabric and straight pins:

Then I drew leaf shapes on cardstock and had the girls cut them out:

Then we wrote something we were thankful for on each leaf, and attached them to the wreath with straight pins.

It turned out well, and the girls enjoyed naming things they were thankful for.  Granted, their ideas typically centered around items they spotted in the nearby vicinity (“I’m thankful for…windows!  And doors!  And carpet!”), but I think they still grasped the concept that we are surrounded by blessings that we don’t deserve.

This Thanksgiving, I pray you are blessed by the love of family and friends, and most importantly, by the love of the Savior.

Sixteen

Becky lined up her “grandkids” on the couch this morning.  There were sixteen of them.  Kinda crazy to think that if our four kids each had four kids, that line-up could be our own progeny!

Danny’s Date

We had a fun playdate with my friend and her kids, one of which is only a few days younger than Danny.  My friend has four young children as well; it was nice to know that my head is not the only one spinning these days!

It’s All Good

Danny has received his first injury at the hand of his big brother: a small scratch on his forehead that he incurred when Jimmy overzealously “pet” Danny.

Thankfully, Danny is no worse for wear.  He laughs in the face of danger; or in this case, in the face of his linebacker of a brother.

Sweet Nothings

The kids like to watch their daddy drive away to work in the morning.  Today, per their request, Jim honked his horn for them on his way down the road.

The kids didn’t hear the horn, however, and I explained that it’s hard to hear things from that far away. Susie looked up at me plaintively, and exclaimed, “He can’t hear my sweet little voice?”

Inside the Box

As my dad always said…

…sometimes there’s no better toy than an empty cardboard box…

Floored

Even though it looks like Becky has a death grip on her brother’s neck, she’s actually cuddling him affectionately after he joined her in a makeshift “bed” she set up in our entryway.  Jimmy soon squirmed out of her embrace, but it was cute while it lasted!

Some Things Never Change

Becky has always gotten a kick out of wearing multiple hats.  Here she is topped off with two washcloths:

And it wasn’t that long ago she donned two sunhats!
