Growing Up

Sometimes I spot one of the kids out of the corner of my eye and it takes my breath away how grown-up they’ve gotten.  Just recently, I caught a glimpse of Susie sitting in the backseat of the car and I could have sworn she looked like a teenager!  When I try to explain to the kids why I’m looking a little teary-eyed at them, they just groan and say I’m crazy. 😉

I took this picture at the park a few weeks ago, and I can’t believe how grown-up Tazie looks.  She could easily pass for a four-year-old, due to her height and verbal skills.  Stop growing, kiddo!  I want to enjoy these precious days a little longer!

Beginning of Boat Season

We’ve been so busy this spring that we haven’t gotten to use the boat as much as we’d like, but here are a few pictures from one of our first outings!  I was very impressed that Jim and Susie both got in the cold water right away – the rest of the kids stayed warm on board with me. 🙂

Tazie was SO excited about boating – we clearly have another boat baby in the family!

Here’s Jimmy wakeboarding:

And Susie kneeboarding:

And Danny keeping me company in the sunshine:

And Tazie deciding that she was next in line to pilot the ship:

And the girls keeping themselves warm and entertained:

Can’t wait for all the summer water adventures to come!

Trader Dan

I may not understand a lick of what Danny is talking about when he shows me his beloved Pokemon trading cards, but I can tell that the purchase, trading and displaying of the cards makes him a very happy kid!

Bath Bribery

Tazie’s not fond of getting into the bath, but once she’s in, she typically doesn’t want to get out!  But I know I can lure her out with an episode of “Doc McStuffins” while I do her hair.  Bribery works around here! 😉

Bonus Time with Grandpa

My mom had to travel home after a week (with her parting gift of strep throat – sorry, Grammie!), but Grandpa stayed a few extra days to wrap up a “bear” of a project we had tasked him with – building the bear-proof trash enclosure.  So we enjoyed the last few days of fun grandparent time!

Grandpa shared his love of early-morning donuts with the boys and Tazie before school:

And got to see Jimmy’s after-school flag football prowess.  Check out our #12 Tom Brady lookalike:

And here’s the finished product, along with his dutiful assistant who accompanied him on his many trips to Home Depot!  Thanks, Grandpa!

So glad you could stay and hang out with us!

Grammie and Grandpa 2

There were lots of wonderful snuggles with Grammie:

And of course, crafts!

(Here’s Danny crafting a carrot into a dagger, lol!):

We were so excited to have Grammie here for Mother’s Day, so we put on a fancy dinner:

And finished up the visit with more card games:

And nail polishing:

And Grandpa even brought the penny-collecting book he had started as a young child, so our kids could continue it!

What an amazing visit!

Visit from Grammie and Grandpa

Yikes, life sure has gotten busy!  I didn’t mean to let so much time go by between blog posts.  I haven’t been able to figure out where my time is going these days!  Anyway, we recently had a WONDERFUL, helpful, productive visit from my parents.  We all loved having them here and can’t wait for a repeat visit, especially now that my mom is retired from nursing so she can travel more freely!

Grandpa was an instant hit with Tazie 🙂

And of course it didn’t hurt that Grammie came bearing chocolate lollipops!

Grandpa taught the kids solitaire, and Danny has proven to be a bit of a card shark.  The kid WON solitaire – I didn’t think that ever happened!

We all really miss having Grandpa around in the mornings for a little conversation over cereal and coffee 🙂

Here he is hard at work building the project that ended up causing him to stay a few extra days – a bear-proof enclosure for our trash cans!

And here he is chaperoning Jimmy’s new obsession with BB gun target practice!

More pics to come!

Quality Time

A while back, the kids had early dismissals from school, so I took the opportunity to spend some extra time with them!  The girls’ early dismissal was first in the week, so while the boys were still laboring in school, the girls and I hit Panera’s:

and the nail salon:

Tazie declined to have her nails done in the salon, but she was thrilled when Becky did them at home for her later!

And when it was the boys turn to have some fun time, they chose to head out for ice cream:

and spend the rest of the time playing Minecraft.  They were happy campers!

Random Life Pictures

Okay, another picture round-up!  Here are a few from Tazie’s new favorite place, a kid’s museum that features plenty of toys and live animals:

Next, here are is Jimmy demonstrating his technique for inflating the balloon on his Science Fair rocket car.  He had so much fun!

Meanwhile, Tazie enjoyed going to all the fair exhibits that featured volcanos and other fun projects:

Here’s Danny at his science fair, proudly featuring his homemade “speaker” for an iPod.  It really worked!

Here’s Jim making the kids fly on the trampoline.  The kids have really been loving the trampoline this season!  It’s the perfect activity while it’s warm enough to be outside but too cold for the pool:

Here’s Becky orchestrating her very own outdoor scavenger hunt, complete with cryptic clues and prizes.  I was very impressed!

Here’s our friend Tim entertaining the little ones at a fun dinner party:

And here’s the girls honing their checkers skills (I wish I were better at that game!):

Here’s Jim and some of the kids coming back from a bike ride:

And here’s Tazie helping me make dinner.  She still LOVES to be in the kitchen with me!

End of Winter Pics

Okay, here it is, almost the month of May, and I’m finally at the end of our winter pictures.  Well, at least it makes me appreciate our 60 degree weather even more when I look back at the chilly snow!

The kids were as good as ever at keeping themselves entertained on these last few winter days.  They set up obstacle courses:

Looked out at the pretty view:

Chewed on snow shovels, apparently:

Built more snow forts:

Baked many, many desserts:

Did crafts:

Used their little sister as a prop for various creations:

And even put on a puppet show:

Goodbye, winter!  See you next year!
