July 11, 2011, at 10:55 pm | Becky’s longtime habit of stuffing her bed so full of toys and blankets that there’s no room left for her (she had 48 items in her bed at last count) has had an unintended consequence:

She is now prepared for a career in gymnastics, or at least contortionism.
July 10, 2011, at 11:59 pm | The girls have been loving every minute with their visiting summer playmate, a.k.a. cousin Alli. Especially every minute spent watching movies!

July 8, 2011, at 11:06 pm | A friend recently recommended that I let the girls “paint” outside using buckets of water and paint brushes. I thought it was a great idea, and although I didn’t have any clean paint brushes, I grabbed some basting brushes from the kitchen which worked just as well.

The girls absolutely loved this activity, and it kept them busy much longer than I could have hoped for. The only problem was that I failed to instruct them on where and where not to “paint,” so now our sliding glass doors and windows are in need of a good cleaning. Maybe I ought to make window washing into a game, too!

The girls took their painting job very seriously.

They also decided to use the extra water to nourish the plant life – a.k.a. the weeds that have grown so tall that they’re poking up through our deck (Can I add weeding to my game list?).

Once they used up the water (and finished requesting a dozen refills), they then took turns pretending the bucket was a potty.

Too bad they view potty training as no more than a game!
July 7, 2011, at 9:58 pm | While we were visiting Pennsylvania for our friends’ wedding, we squeezed in lots of wonderful time with more friends and family. We were very excited to meet baby Jacob, who is about six weeks younger than Jimmy.

I think they’ll be fast (asleep) friends.

We also had some good pool-time with everyone.

The girls were especially excited about the goggles.

And helping the big boys look for frogs in the pool.

And speaking of big boys, my girls were thrilled to be able to spend time with them.

The big boys were happy to entertain my little guy.

And my big girls.

We ended the trip with a trip to Arby’s, where Jimmy clearly indicated he was willing to upgrade from milk to soda (over my dead body).

And the girls indicated their willingness to trade in their foot-powered toy cars for dirt bikes (again, over my VERY dead body).

It was a great trip!

July 5, 2011, at 10:49 pm | Me: “Hey girls – look out there! There’s a skunk in our yard! I hope he doesn’t tangle with Tommy (our cat).”
Becky: “Yeah, I hope he doesn’t eat Tommy.”
Me: “No hon, skunks don’t eat cats. He would just make Tommy stinky.”
Becky: “I hope he doesn’t poop on Tommy.”
Me: “No, skunks don’t poop to make us stinky. They spray stinky stuff on us.”
Becky: “I don’t want the skunk to spray poop on us.”
Me: “No honey, he doesn’t spray poop. You know how your bath toys squirt water out? Skunks squirt out water that stinks.
Becky: “I don’t want skunks to take our bath toys.”
Me: Sigh.
July 4, 2011, at 11:02 pm | Happy 4th of July, everyone! We had a great day on the lake with friends today, but I regrettably didn’t take any pictures. All three kiddos were very agreeable boaters, and even the weather cooperated to make it a wonderful day. The only thing missing was a fireworks display. Hopefully next year!
We got back home last night from a trip to Pennsylvania visiting family and celebrating the wedding of two dear friends of ours. I’ll try to post pictures tomorrow once I catch my breath. I feel like we’ve been going non-stop the past two weeks, and I’m looking forward to getting back to our routine. Although the girls are probably going to find life at home rather boring, compared to the constant socializing and thrill-seeking we’ve been doing lately. I’m going to have to find a way to jazz up our trip to the grocery store tomorrow. Good thing the girls are always excited by a simple swing through a Dunkin’ Donuts drive-through!

ABOUT US I'm blessed to be saved by the grace of God, loved by my wonderful husband Jim, and embraced by my twin girls, Rebecca Faith and Susanna Joy and my sons Jimmy and Danny. I started this blog in May 2008 when I was hospitalized for pre-term labor at 24 weeks gestation. The Lord allowed me to keep the girls inside until they were 34 weeks along, and on July 27th, Rebecca made her debut, followed by Susanna, five minutes later, on July 28th. We ecstatically welcomed Jimmy into our lives on April 25th, 2011, and Danny on August 31, 2012. This blog has been a personal journal of faith and motherhood and the only way I can remember which child did what and when. Thanks for stopping by to share in my Faith and Joy! Feel free to e-mail me at: [email protected].
