September 11, 2010, at 11:43 pm | There’s very little that I enjoy more than a good old-fashioned country fair, and I have to say that tonight, I was walking on air. My in-laws, Jim and I took the girls to one this evening, and I think I was just as giddy as the girls when we pulled into view of the carousel’s flashing neon lights. The girls let out excited squeals all the way into the fairgrounds as they pointed at one spinning ride after another, and I couldn’t blame them. There’s just something magical about all the sights, sounds and smells of a fair. It’s like a redneck Christmas party, complete with blinking lights, cheerful music, desserts and fried food as far as the eye can see, barns full of adorable animals, rows of tents with chatty vendors and goods you never knew you needed. We had an incredible time soaking in all the fun (and probably the scents as well, given the amount of time we spent in the animal barn). I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. Our smiles will communicate volumes, I’m sure!

September 9, 2010, at 10:58 pm | Gotta love ending a long day with some family snuggles and a movie.

September 8, 2010, at 10:30 pm | I always knew I had big shoes to fill (I wear a size 9.5), but apparently I also have a big rear end to go along with it, judging by the way Becky was waddling around tonight in my underwear!

September 7, 2010, at 10:39 pm | We had a wonderful time at the lake on Monday. The girls were thrilled they got to play with the big kids while I drove the boat:

Susie spent most of the day in Beth’s lap:
Both awake and asleep (I think the arrangement was satisfactory for all involved!):

The girls were also excited to partake of all the yummy snack food our friends brought, especially the lollipops:
Susie wasn’t sure whether to eat her lollipop or admire its beauty:
Jim had fun getting to do all sorts of watersports, like trying to double up on the wakesurf with Uriah (it didn’t work very well):
But Uriah was inspired to try double body surfing with Chris (that didn’t work super well, either, but everyone had a good time!):

(Thanks to Uriah’s wife, Ashley, for the great action shot above!)
We were so happy that Gabe traveled up to spend the weekend with us, that we made sure he got in plenty of Mable-ing:
As well as lots of babysitting (thanks, Gabe!):

And the big girls got in some pretty crazy Mable rides as well. They were far braver than me; I was content to stay warm and dry in the driver’s seat!

Goodbye, dear friends. We can’t wait to see you all again next time!

September 6, 2010, at 10:53 pm | We had a great time boating again today, and I plan to have the pictures uploaded for your viewing pleasure by tomorrow. I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Even if you weren’t able to get outside for the last few days of summer weather, I hope you were able to take a rest from your labor by sitting inside, naked, and eating lots of snacks. The girls are good at that!

September 5, 2010, at 10:52 pm | I see Jim has been keeping you all company for the last few days, thanks to his fascination with the iPhone. I’m still more comfortable blogging from my good ol’ laptop, but we’ll see if I can adapt to the changing technology along with the rest of the world. I only started texting in the last few months, so I’d say I have a bit of catching up to do!
Here’s some pictures of our day at the lake yesterday. I didn’t get any action shots of us tubing on the infamous “Mable,” so you’ll just have to imagine me driving the boat around in circles while towing 3-4 adults gripping for their life onto a giant orange inflatable couch.
I did, however, get a picture of the tube’s alternate use, that of a wrestling ring:
Here are three of our smiling (if chilly) boaters:
Sarah with two of her biggest fans:
Jim trying out the “go-kart” seating on a Jet Ski:
Ashley coaching Susie on the proper way to wear sunglasses (or is it the other way around?):
Becky going, as she would say, “vewy FAASSS!” (translation: Very Fast):
The guys catching up on their tans and their Z’s:
Uriah practicing his Tarzan moves:
Becky practicing her Hollywood starlet moves:
Kaitlyn seeing eye to eye with Becky on the beauty of a day at the lake:

September 4, 2010, at 10:42 pm | The end of a nice day of boating with friends. Em is too tired to blog after hours of destroying people on the Great Big Mable (a monster tube), but not too tired to smile at her iPhone.

September 3, 2010, at 9:10 pm | Emily is not blogging because she is cleaning toilets so this is Jim guest posting. It’s really just a test to see how blogging from the iPhone is. Sorry for the lack of wit or good writing. The iPhone keyboard (or lack thereof) saps all wit and good writing.

September 2, 2010, at 11:21 pm | We didn’t have the greatest weather during the first half of our week at the lake, so we spent quite a bit of time indoors. That worked out great for the girls, since the house we rented was fully stocked with children’s books and they had many family members and friends willing to read to them!

September 1, 2010, at 10:12 pm |
Susie (on left): “Mom, you’ve been holding out on us. Good thing Grammie lets us have milk with our cheerios!”
Becky (on left): “Dad, that is one big bathtub.”
Becky: “Are you paying close attention to my sliding skills? Watch and be amazed.”
Susie: “I think I’m getting choked, but this is still fun!”
Me: “Getting drenched in a sudden downpour is a small price to pay for the pleasure of boating to the ice cream parlor!”
Susie: “I’m so glad Aunt Angie lets us borrow her colored pencils. She’s so much more fun than Mom!”
Becky (on left): “Grandpa’s story reading is so enthralling I’m considering sitting still until it’s over.”
Susie: “Aunt Angie is a good story reader too. Even my puppy is entertained.”
Susie: “I hope one day I can grow up to read just like Aunt Angie.”
Me (taking the picture): “I just hope Susie sticks with her love of Strawberry Shortcake books instead of her aunt’s love of Stephen King!”

ABOUT US I'm blessed to be saved by the grace of God, loved by my wonderful husband Jim, and embraced by my twin girls, Rebecca Faith and Susanna Joy and my sons Jimmy and Danny. I started this blog in May 2008 when I was hospitalized for pre-term labor at 24 weeks gestation. The Lord allowed me to keep the girls inside until they were 34 weeks along, and on July 27th, Rebecca made her debut, followed by Susanna, five minutes later, on July 28th. We ecstatically welcomed Jimmy into our lives on April 25th, 2011, and Danny on August 31, 2012. This blog has been a personal journal of faith and motherhood and the only way I can remember which child did what and when. Thanks for stopping by to share in my Faith and Joy! Feel free to e-mail me at: [email protected].
