New Friends

Playing at the park is serious business.  Just ask Susie.

Or Becky.

But when you meet a new friend at the playground, everything gets much more exciting!

Becky: “Can you believe this big girl wants to play with us?”

IMG_4221

Becky: “I haven’t had so much fun since…well, I guess I always have fun!”

IMG_4222

Becky: “Peek-ee-boo.  See you!”  (This is a transcription of what she actually said)

IMG_4226

Becky: “Can you see me in here?”

IMG_4229

Susie: “Aack!  You caught me!”

IMG_4230

Susie: “Can we meet new friends at the park every day?”

Meet and Greet

The girls’ birthdays aren’t until the end of July, but they’re acting as if we’ve already gotten them the best present ever: a new playmate!  A college student from Maryland named Gabriel is staying with my in-laws next door for this month, and then will be staying with us for the rest of the summer while he interns at a local financial firm.  We feel so blessed that this brother in Christ has graced us with his presence this summer, and the girls are giddy with excitement that they have a new buddy.  And Jim is pleased he has someone else who wants to ride the Ranger with him, and I’m thrilled that there’s someone else around to keep the kids (and Jim) busy! It’s a win-win all around.  I have a feeling that this summer is going to go by all too fast!

Cap and Trade

IMG_4765

Becky & Susie: “Dad’s old baseball caps are a great diversion from bedtime.”

IMG_4766

Becky & Susie: “Mom, we can barely see that little hat on your big head.”

IMG_4770

Susie: “I look cool with my hat on backwards, don’t I?”

IMG_4767

Becky: “I finally found a hat that makes my head look small!”

Mommy Had a Little Lamb

Rack of lamb, anyone?

IMG_4756

I recently found my daughters’ dear Lambie (pronounced “Labbie” by Becky, who somehow took it upon herself to liberate and enunciate the silent “b,” even though she doesn’t even know it’s in there) in a puddle of water that had spilled from the girls’ not-so-spillproof sippy cups.  In order to resuscitate the sodden creature by bedtime, I used the rack that came with my dryer.  I was pathetically excited that, after nearly six years in this house, I finally had a use for the giant thing that has been taking up valuable space in my laundry closet.  I’m happy to report that the rack served its purpose beautifully, and Lambie was reunited with its oblivious owners, who didn’t even realize their beloved pet had spent the afternoon in a wind tunnel.  Disaster was averted, Lambie was re-fluffed, and bedtime was peaceful.  Hooray!

Bad Hair Day

Becky officially has enough hair to have a bad hair day.  She gets the cutest little cowlicks, and I can’t bear to wet them down because they just make her look so adorably goofy.

IMG_4759

She enjoys looking adorably goofy, I think.

IMG_4764

Or maybe not?

IMG_4762

Becky: “Aaaah!  Why didn’t anyone tell me I have goofy hair?”

What You Want

I know what you want.

You want more pictures of the girls eating ice cream, don’t you?

Well, who am I to deny the public?

Here you go!

Photography Lesson

Rule #1 of photography (according to me):  It’s easier to get one person looking at the camera…

…than four.

Lost and Found

The next time I’m lacking a sock when folding laundry, I now have one more place to look:

The refrigerator door.

IMG_4705

Maybe they were trying to match colors?  I have no idea what they were thinking when they put it up there!

Soccer Net

Becky (on left): “Ack!!  You’re stuck the other side of that net!!!!!

Susie: “Don’t have a cow!  No, really…don’t have a cow.  I already have one in my hand.  I don’t need another one.”

Gotta Love It

I’ve found yet another aspect of motherhood I love: Getting to spend hot summer afternoons outdoors.
