Motorheads

Jim found yet another motorized vehicle for the girls to fall in love with: a jet ski.

And although Susie loves a good watercraft just as much as the next toddler, she’s all about the cars:

I don’t think he’s proud of his powersports-obsessed girls at all – do you?

Milkshakes Milestone

If you can’t tell already, I’m big into food-related milestones.  The other day, the girls had their first milkshakes.  It made them as happy as you’d expect; I think they were pretty excited they could basically suck ice cream through a straw.  And I was excited that it involved less clean-up than an ice cream cone!

Duck and Cover

This morning I found Susie practicing her “duck and cover” earthquake routine.

I think she misses California.

Memorial Day

Remember how my post yesterday mentioned my husband and children’s abiding love of water?  Well today, I saw that adoration in action as we hit the lake.  We had a great time enjoying a day of boating with our friends and family, but I don’t think anybody was happier than Jim and his girls.

Here’s Jim whooping it up on the tube (far left):

Here’s Becky on her first tube ride (don’t worry, Mom – we went VERY slowly):

Here’s a close-up of Becky’s face in the previous picture.  I think her smile says it all!

And here’s Susie keeping a watchful eye on her sister’s activities from the safety of Sarah’s lap:

Although Susie declined to participate in watersports, she was an attentive spectator and snacker:

We spent the day celebrating our freedom, but we were mindful of the reason we have the freedom in the first place.  We are so grateful for the sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform.  We are able to enjoy freedom with our families because others left their families and lay down their lives to establish and preserve that freedom.

What Time is It Again?

We’re back from a week-long excursion to California.  The pictures will have to wait, because even though my body should think it is three hours earlier than my East coast clock says it is, my head says it is bedtime and I’m fading fast.  The girls, however, are still on a West coast schedule, which means that they’re upstairs rolling around in their cribs instead of sleeping.  We’ll see which side of the crib they wake up on tomorrow – figuratively and literally.

I’ll leave you with this picture from our walk along a river this evening.  I don’t think my husband and children find anything more fascinating than a body of water (other than, perhaps a motorcycle)!

Mindless Fun

What can you do with a rocking chair, two Lego pieces, and your sister?

Why, have a little mindless fun!

Here’s Becky displaying how to insert the conveniently-sized Lego pieces onto your fingers:

And here’s Susie demonstrating how to tease your sister with them:

(In case you’re wondering what Becky is saying in the video below, I think it’s her personal derivative of “Rock a Bye Baby,” which is what I had been singing to the girls a few moments before while I rocked the chair back and forth.  I don’t think she views the song as a lullaby!)

The Beauty of it All

Being a stay-at-home mom has plenty of perks, but now that the weather is warmer, the list is getting longer.  I love frequenting the same ice cream parlor several times in one week with the satisfaction that even though it makes my hips wider, it makes the girls happy.  Who am I to deny them (me) a treat now (and then)?!

This is the Life

Nothing takes the edge off a hard day like laying pantsless on the couch with your Magnadoodle.

Just ask Susie.

Cone Heads

The girls are growing up!  They’ve officially had their first ice cream cones.  They’ve certainly had plenty of ice cream before, but never in their own cone.  I had asked the shop owner to give me a kiddie-sized cup with two spoons, but he told me to give the individual cones a whirl.  I was extremely doubtful, but I suppose I should have trusted his seasoned expertise.  The kids loved them!  And while they didn’t quite get the licking part down, and thus ended up with a lapful of drippings, they managed to keep all the ice cream on top of the cone.  The only problem came at the end when Susie had eaten down to where the cone begins, and kept begging for more ice cream to be put on top.  She refused to eat the cone without getting it refilled first!  I actually think she might be on to something – I think someone needs to open up an ice cream parlor with free refills.  We’ll be first in line!

Home Improvements

The girls are now unofficial landscape artists.  Susie took it upon herself to rearrange the rock bed lining the house, and Becky livened up our driveway’s boring hue with brightly colored illustrations.  The house looks better already!
