In mid-August, the girls had their yearly check-up and Susie didn’t pass her eye exam. I didn’t think too much of it, because both girls actually flunked their eye exams a few years ago, and a subsequent examination by an optometrist found their eyesight to be perfect, so I figured they were a little too eager to try on glasses. But I made an appointment at an eye doctor anyway, and I was surprised when the doctor confirmed Susie did indeed need glasses! As soon as she stepped out of the office with her new glasses (graduated bifocals for long-distance assistance), she gasped and said, “Look how beautiful the leaves on the trees are!” and she started reading far away road signs with glee. I guess the kid’s sight had been fuzzy for a while – oops! She’s done a great job with taking care of her glasses, and I have to say I think she looks so grown-up and adorable in them. She was always a bookworm – now she looks the part!
Oh, and the other kids enjoyed the trips to the eye doctor as well! 🙂
Back in August, Jim brought the big kids to a “take your kids to work day.” They were SO excited – and so was he! It was a great day! My girls love to dress up and pose!
The big girls raided my closet – crazy how close they are to fitting in many of my clothes and accesories! From the end of July to the end of August, we have four birthdays in our family to celebrate, so we make sure to pack the days with lots of celebrating! Here are Danny, Susie and Becky’s wish lists (I just love looking back to see the things the kids wanted in past years, just so I can capture their personalities!):
One of the fun outings was a trip to the mall, including the carousel:
The trampoline jump:
and the ride-on animals the kids are always begging to try:
Danny did a good job driving and holding Tazie steady at the same time – no easy feat! I’m finally getting close to going through my end-of-summer pictures! So now that the weather is cooling down, I really appreciate looking back on these warm sunny days! We spent some beautiful mornings at the park:
In the pool:
In the house:
And on the lake:
I wish summer could last forever!
I told the kids that I used to make my own Candyland-style board games when I was young, and the kids were inspired to do the same! The girls’ games were really fun – we’ve played them several times and each time the kids get the biggest kick out of it!
Becky’s been practicing with her paints again – isn’t this lovely?
The girls lobbied hard for a “friend” birthday party this year; after all, they were turning double-digits!! I was happy to oblige, as I love seeing the girls with their friends almost as much as they love being with them! The weather cooperated for us to have a wonderful pool party. The girls enjoyed repeating their favorite activity from their end-of-the-summer party last year: water balloon babies! They made “daycares” on rafts filled with all the “babies.” It’s just a good thing Jimmy and Danny were at Bubba’s house so those balloons were safe from crazy invaders! 😉
We did a cupcake pinata:
And indoor scavenger hunt:
And of course, cake!
It was the perfect afternoon! I love my beautiful ten-year-olds! |
