Quotes

I realized that I haven’t done many “Quotes” posts recently, and I have practically a year’s worth to relate!  The frequency of those side-splitting observations and quips have decreased as the kids have gotten older and more mature, but they do slip in there from time to time.  Here are a bunch of my favorites!

Becky: Is “Shania Twain” Mark Twain’s sister?

******

Danny said to me, “I locked the (car) door.”  Then he paused thoughtfully and continued, “…But I want bad guys to steal my booster seat…because I don’t like my booster seat.”

I came across a “Declaration” the girls had drafted in which they declare that they deserve a pet.  I had told the girls that it was possible that if they kept their room very clean for a month, that maybe we could get a hamster or guinea pig or something like that (emphasis on the maybe).

After reading their letter, I asked, “Soo…did you keep your room clean for a month?”

Susie quickly shot back, “What?? The founding fathers didn’t have to do that to get America!”

******

One night, I heard talking in the girls’ room well after they were supposed to be asleep (which is not unusual around here – one of the hazards of best friends sharing a room!).  I went in and told them it was time to be quiet.  I was shutting the door when Becky called out what had apparently been the topic of their discussion: “Mom, if you spell APPLE backwards, is the E silent?”

******

Becky, trying to educate Jimmy about historical aspects of Boston: “You know, that’s where they had the Boston mascara!!”

******

Susie: “Who wants to trade (Kindles)?”
Danny: “Me! Me! Me!”
(Susie hands hers to Danny and waits)
Susie: “Where’s mine?”
Danny: “Oh I didn’t have one!”
Susie: “What?!?!”
Me: “Dan, you can’t trade if you don’t have something to give her.”
Dan, settling down with Susie’s kindle: “Oh I didn’t know that…well…I kinda did.”

She’s Got Talent

Becky’s been practicing her sketching.  I love seeing how her skills are progressing!

Shoe Thief

The great shoe thief strikes again!

The Family Fish

So…our family embarked on a new adventure a week ago.  Pet fish ownership!  We bought a 10-gallon tank with a filter, got all the chemicals we needed, added five specially-chosen and named goldfish, enjoyed their little antics for 24 hours…and then watched each one die!  We have no idea what we did wrong!  So we started over with four new goldfish.  So far, almost a week in, we’re down to two left.  The kids check the tank with trepidation each morning to see whose fish has made it through the night…it’s like Survivor around here!  But even with the trauma of losing several of the new friends, we’ve all enjoyed being pet owners again.  Here’s Jimmy reading the fish a story!

And the girls making sure everyone was okay in there:

Here are the original five fish names: Sunny, Ellie, Fishie, Big Jim Fisherton, and Frank Loyd.  May they rest in peace!

Here are the new four: Sunny Jr, Ellie Jr, Big Jim Jr, and Frank Loyd Jr!

We even got them a cool background and a few toys!

I’ll keep you updated with our headcount!

Spy Guys

Meet the newest spies keeping an eye out for bad guys!

Here’s the spy ID cards the kids created all by themselves!

Spies never looked so good!

Hooray for Snow Days

Hooray for more snow days the past few weeks!  The kids were successful in building some great snowmen and snow forts:

Check out Danny’s little snowman with the grape eyes and celery nose!:

And we finished off the snow day with more board games with our neighbor friend.  I love having these kids at home!!

Cake Decorating

A while back, I made a cake (my first from-scratch three-layer).  It turned out pretty well, and I figured I was all done once I had covered it all over with vanilla frosting.  The girls didn’t think so!  I let them at it, and between the two of them and a bag of M&Ms, the cake became much more festive!

Locked Up

Well, it took me 9.5 years of parenting to get to this point, but as of today, I’ve finally put locks on several of my kitchen cupboards.  Tazie is just very independent and curious..and hungry!  She likes to help herself to snacks, which results in scenes like this:

Fortunately, she’s good at cleaning up messes too!

Slimed

We had our good friends over for a playdate, and it turned into a slime-making bonanza.  The kids had so much fun!

Becky the Builder

Becky’s making headway on her architecture set she received for Christmas.  Eiffel tower, here she comes!
