Bonkers over Brothers

I don’t know if I’ll ever understand boys.  Their physicality is just so foreign to me.  They’re like frenzied pinballs, bouncing off every available surface and human in a five-foot radius.  Jim and I joke that the brothers remind us of puppies or lion cubs; their play fighting is good-natured (for the most part), and if they’re in the same room, they’re likely occupying the same small space and literally sitting on top of each other, jostling for top-dog position.  I don’t get it, and it makes me crazy, but it also makes me laugh.  These boys keep life wonderfully interesting!

A Snow Day Best Enjoyed Inside

A few weeks ago, we experienced a particularly bad snowstorm, resulting in bitterly cold temperatures and a lot of blowing snow.  This is what I could see (or not see) from my kitchen window:

Of course, the kids decided it was the perfect weather for playing outside!  I made sure they were even more bundled up than usual:

But after only five minutes outside, Danny came in to ask me to somehow make him warmer – he already had icicles on his eyebrows!!  He lasted about another five minutes outside after this before he called it quits.

Susie was the next one in – I’m not sure if she stuck her head in the snow, or if this much snow blew in her hair!

The other kids soon followed, along with our next-door neighbor who had joined the kids outside in their arctic adventures.  They had a great time staying in, drinking hot cocoa, and playing board games.

We came up with our very own family Lego competition as well.  In each round, I gave the kids their own bowl of Lego bricks, a theme and a time limit, and set them loose.  They were very creative!

Keeping Watch

Tazie still loves watching her Daddy work outside!  Here she is during our last big snowstorm:

And here’s her picture from last winter:

She’s a devoted fan of our hardworking men!

Gather Round

Sometimes Dads have the coolest videos around. 😉

Two Front Teeth

As of a few weeks ago, Jimmy lost his two front teeth!  (One of which was finally knocked out by Susie, who tackled him in the snow after he destroyed a snow cave she and Becky were building – poor kid had to tell everyone he got walloped by his big sister!) . He actually lost yet another one on the top today.  This kid looks like a prize fighter!

Swimsuit Silliness

Look who got a new swimsuit!  We needed something to remind us that warmer temperatures are possible! (Perhaps Tazie thought it was a gymnastics leotard?  Or maybe a ballerina tutu in which she must perform a deep bow?  Or maybe this is a posture of gratitude for my excellent swimsuit-buying prowess?)

My Muffled Minions

Some mornings are just too cold!

Snow Day with Friends

Just before New Year’s, we were able to spend time with our friends Ashley and Uriah at their new home in MA.  We loved getting to relax in their beautiful home and enjoy their company!  The guys (big and little!) loved tooling around outside on snowmobiles, while Ashley and I wrangled the girls inside.  The day went by far too quickly!  I hope we can go back again soon!

(I had to include a few pictures below of Ashley’s interior design – I wish she could come decorate my house!).

In the Kitchen

The girls received two American Girl cookbooks from my mom for Christmas, and they’ve been putting them to good use!  Susie made the BEST Chinese chicken stir-fry (I’m still craving it!), and Becky made amazing chocolate chip cookies (they were seriously buttery and crispy).  Now if I can just get them to make dinner on a regular basis!

Puppet Performances

During our winter break, the kids put on a few awesome homemade puppet shows.  Susie’s show was complete with a concessions stand (courtesy of Jimmy), tiered seating (with graduated pricing), and a curtain call at the finale.  We have quite the performers in our family!
