I found these signs taped up around the house the other day. I still don’t know what they were pointing to! Jimmy: “I had a big cold yesterday. It’s the same one I have today.” ******* Me to Jimmy: “Bud, are you tired?” Jimmy: “No, why?” Me: “Well cause sometimes when you’re wiggly, you’re tired.” Jimmy: “No, when I’m wiggly, I’m wide awake!” ******** During our Arizona vacation, some of the kids went on a Hummer tour in Sedona. Afterward, Becky was telling me all about the ride, including details about a “wait-a-minute” cactus they learned all about from the tour driver. After she was done, I said, “Wow, that’s a great story!” Jimmy looked at me soberly and corrected, “It’s not a story. It’s a plant.” ******* Jimmy, walking up to Pappy outside, shivering: "I got this new coat and I’m still cold." Pappy: "Where is your coat?" Jimmy: "It’s in the car." ******* I overheard Danny singing to himself around Christmastime: “Jimmy got run over by a reindeer…” ******* Jimmy, trying to help me potty-train Danny, grabbed my iPhone and said: “Siri, remind Danny to poop.” Ever since last spring, Susie has been obsessed with wolves and everything to do with Alaska. She was determined to be a professional sled-dog racer (she even came up with the idea of writing a letter to Libby Riddles, the first female Iditarod winner, all by herself and now she checks the mail daily to see if Libby has written back!). While she still wants to raise and race sled dogs, she has added another profession to her plan – mining. Specifically, she wants to mine for gold and precious jewels. So when I saw a rock mining kit on Amazon, I knew it would make a perfect Christmas present for our little gold-digger!
Sometimes TV shows are better viewed from a safe distance! (This is actually Susie’s habit – I think this is the first time I ever saw Jimmy hide from a TV episode!) I keep forgetting to announce the girls’ big news – as of Christmas Day, they are now sleeping in bunk beds! Becky sleeps on top, and Susie’s on the lower bunk. They have done wonderfully with the transition, and they really enjoy all the extra place space on the floor. In fact, tonight we had a dad vs. all four kids wrestling match in their room, and there was plenty of room to play! Some warm winter days just require a sponge-bath on the deck! (It was all Danny’s idea!)
Thanks to a computer glitch, this post wasn’t published until now. Better late than never – here’s part two of Christmas!
After opening stockings, it was time for breakfast, my favorite part of any day, especially Christmas Day! We had egg bacon cups, french toast cream cheese sticks, and a coffee cake that looked and tasted like monkey bread. Yum!
After that, it was finally time for the presents under the tree! The kids were absolutely thrilled with everything – helmets, American Girl accessories, Disney sets – thanks to the generosity of family and friends, it was quite a toy explosion in our family room!
It was a very Merry Christmas! |
