Happy Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day to the dad who makes life fun for his family!!

And Happy Father’s Day to my dad who teaches us how to look at life as a puzzle to be solved and an adventure to be embarked upon!

And last but not least, Happy Father’s Day to my father-in-law who shows us how to love the Lord and cherish his family.

Dynamic Duo

I know this shot is a little blurry, but I love seeing Tazie bike riding with daddy!

Sew Creative

Thanks to Susie’s leadership and craft skills, the kids have been on a sewing kick lately.  Using old socks and shirts as their fabric, they’ve managed to craft stuffed animal clothes and even a face mask.  I told Jimmy I hoped he washed his socks first!

Quotes

Tazie: “Was I at your and daddy’s wedding?”

Me: “Nope, you weren’t born yet.”

Tazie: “Oh yeah, I was a baby then I liked milk and I didn’t have eyes.  Now I’m a big girl and I still like milk and I have eyes.”

****************

Me, to Tazie at bedtime: “I’m sorry, but you can’t take this string to bed.  It could hurt you.”

Tazie: “But it’s not a hippo on my head!!”

****************

Me: “Wow Susie, that was a fast shower!”

Susie: “Yeah, only 5 minutes!”

Jimmy: “You think that’s fast?”

Susie, pointing to her head: “You know how long it takes to wash this much hair?”

Jimmy, pointing to himself: “You know how long it takes to wash this many muscles?”

***************

We were walking in the woods and heard a tree fall in the distance.

Me: “Hear that tree fall?”

Jimmy: “Who did that?”

Daddy: “God did it!”

Tazie: “God doesn’t have a chainsaw!”

***************

Susie: “Why is it so hard to scoop hard ice cream?”

Me: “You need strong forearms.”

Danny, flexing his biceps: “I have strong six-arms.”

Truth

Driving through a nearby town, I kept passing handmade signs at the front of homeowners’ lawns that spelled out the words “Hope,” “Joy,” “Truth” and “Peace,” among others.  And while I love the heart behind these efforts, I have to imagine that the homeowners are likely missing out on the genuine articles.  This pandemic has highlighted that the best this world has to offer is transient and can be taken away in a moment.  If your hope relies on future plans, they cannot be counted on.  If your joy relies on being with family, that can be curtailed.  If your truth depends on scientific data, it can be manipulated.  If your peace depends on health, it will fail.

This morning, I read Hebrews 6:18-19:

“…We who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.  We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul…”

In Christ’s redemptive work, we have a sure and steadfast anchor.  One that cannot be contaminated by contagion or restricted by the government.  This anchor is the only capital “T” Truth that exists, and the only Truth that matters.  God, who “cannot lie, promised before the world began” (Titus 1:2) the hope of eternal life to all who believe.

“This God—his way is perfect
the word of the LORD proves true;
he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.

For who is God, but the LORD?
And who is a rock, except our God?” – Psalm 18:30-31
