February 17, 2010, at 10:16 pm | The last few times I’ve taken the girls to the library, I wasn’t brave enough to take them out of their stroller; I had figured we were all better off with them restrained. Today, however, I wanted them to run off a little steam before their afternoon nap, so I took a deep breath and let them loose in the children’s section at the library.
First, they marveled at the large stuffed animals:
Next, they made themselves at home on the furniture:
Then, they attempted a puzzle:
Then, they emptied a bin of Legos:
Finally, they picked up a book:
They may not have spent much time reading, but the girls sure enjoyed their time at the library!
February 16, 2010, at 10:57 pm | We received a significant snowfall here today (although not that significant compared to other portions of the country lately). It started snowing early this morning and simply didn’t stop all day. Since I didn’t have to leave the house at all, I was able to sit back and enjoy the scenery outside.
It really was a beautiful sight to behold.
I contemplated bundling up the girls and taking them out to play, even though the last thing I wanted to do was go outside in the cold. I didn’t want to be accused of depriving them of the joys of winter fun, just because I’m a stick-in-the-mud (or more precisely, a stick-in-the-house).
I decided to open up the door and see if the girls were interested in the cold wet stuff outside. If they displayed an eagerness to explore, I would get them suited up and out we’d go. Fortunately for me, they shared my preference for viewing the snow from afar. They stopped a few feet from the open door and stayed there. Susie in particular wanted to tell me about the snow, all while keeping a safe distance from it. Here’s a video clip of her description. I find it especially endearing because she very rarely engages in such vociferous conversations with me. I suppose she finds the snow inspirational!
February 15, 2010, at 10:45 pm | To the world, Rebecca may appear to be a quiet, sensitive child. She’s shy around most adults, and takes a long time to warm up to people. She can often be found sitting by herself and reading a book. But such displays of introversion are misleading; Rebecca is actually a thrill-seeking goofball. She’s loves the rush of adrenaline that comes with being thrown in the air and spun around. She thoroughly enjoyed accompanying me on The Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyworld. She becomes giddy and playful when around other children her age, and loves to be in the thick of the action. And of course, she loves to make silly faces.
Here she is putting on a show for her adoring public while we were visiting family in Medeira Beach, Florida. Note that Susanna’s expression stays basically the same throughout the series of shots. Rebecca’s, needless to say, doesn’t.
Here’s her baseline:
Now she’s getting into the swing of things:
Now she’s letting us all know how excited she is to have her picture taken:
Now she’s mouthing off about something or another:
Now she’s making sure we get her best side:
Finally, she’s waving goodbye to the crowd.
Here’s looking at you, Rebecca!
February 14, 2010, at 10:36 pm | In honor of Valentine’s Day, I should be posting some heartwarming photo of the girls giving each other hugs and kisses. But I’m not. Because even though the girls did give each other spontaneous hugs and kisses today, it happened in the bathtub and I don’t usually keep a camera in the bathroom (but maybe I ought to start – I wish I could have captured the moment tonight when Susie decided I wasn’t doing a thorough enough job at washing Becky, so she took it upon herself to vigorously scrub her sister’s head and face with a washcloth. Fortunately, Becky thought getting smothered by wet washcloth was hilarious, so it was all good!).
Anyway, since I don’t have an appropriate Valentine’s shot, I perused our pictures from Florida and chose the ones that made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Because what says Valentine’s better than a gushy, sentimental exclamation of “Awww – How cute!â€
Like a picture of Susie who had fallen fast asleep sitting up in her stroller after a full day at Disneyworld:
Or a picture of the girls holding hands at the park with their twin cousins:
Or a picture of Becky looking up adoringly at her cousin Katelyn:
Or a picture of Susie relaxing with her cousin Allison:
Or a picture of Jim taking the girls for a stroll on the boardwalk in Madeira Beach:
Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! I hope your day was full of warm and fuzzy moments!
February 13, 2010, at 10:30 pm | We just got back from spending a week in Orlando, Florida with Jim’s parents and his sister’s family. I hope to post more in the next few days about our wonderful time there, but right now I’ve got suitcases to unpack and my own bed to sleep in, so I’ll just leave you with a family photo. More to follow!

Becky: “Hey look! Twin sisters!â€
P.S. – No, the girls aren’t reading Tom Clancy just yet, despite the book jacket lying in the background. I’m not even reading Tom Clancy yet myself. It’s from a box of books that I packed up to donate to the library. The girls got into the box and have decided that the books serve a more noble purpose in our home as stacking blocks, projectile missiles, and peek-a-boo barricades than they would in the hands of an actual…you know…reader. So by the time the library receives its copy of Tom Clancy, I have a hunch that it might be a bit more well-worn than they were expecting.

Susie (on right): “Do you know what book you’re reading?â€
Becky: “Are you ill? Of COURSE I know.â€
Becky: “Well, now that you mention it, let me just take a closer look.â€
Becky: “I bet if we put our heads together, we can figure it out.â€
Becky: “Let’s just pretend I can read and leave it at that, OK?â€
February 8, 2010, at 8:04 pm | I was letting the girls air-dry, when Becky decided she needed to cover up.
Just her head, that is.

ABOUT US I'm blessed to be saved by the grace of God, loved by my wonderful husband Jim, and embraced by my twin girls, Rebecca Faith and Susanna Joy and my sons Jimmy and Danny. I started this blog in May 2008 when I was hospitalized for pre-term labor at 24 weeks gestation. The Lord allowed me to keep the girls inside until they were 34 weeks along, and on July 27th, Rebecca made her debut, followed by Susanna, five minutes later, on July 28th. We ecstatically welcomed Jimmy into our lives on April 25th, 2011, and Danny on August 31, 2012. This blog has been a personal journal of faith and motherhood and the only way I can remember which child did what and when. Thanks for stopping by to share in my Faith and Joy! Feel free to e-mail me at: [email protected].
