May 19, 2010, at 9:12 pm | Can you tell the girls are a wee bit enamored with lining things up?
They’re also more than a “wee bit†enamored with themselves, illustrated here by them checking out their reflections in the dishwasher:
I guess I’m relieved that the surface was clean enough to even SEE a reflection in!
May 18, 2010, at 10:26 pm | Another one of my favorite things at Costco:
The comfy chair floor models.
(My number one favorite thing is the double-seated shopping cart, and my number two is their no-questions-asked return policy, and coming in at number three is the Kirkland brand tortilla chips. Oh, and I also love their churros. And pizza. And $1.50 hot dogs with a fountain soda…How many days until my bank account has sufficiently recovered so I can go back there again?)
May 17, 2010, at 8:44 pm | I’ve concluded that long hair is overrated. Not only is it more work to wash, dry and style, but it also is seems to attract food particles. Especially gooey ones. Today alone, Susie doused her head with both syrupy canned peaches and apple-flavored yogurt. I’m a fan of fruit-scented shampoo, but this is a bit much. She didn’t use enough to justify an immediate bath – just enough to make her hair sticky and stringy. Maybe she’s telling me she wants to start using mousse. I might be okay with that, as long as it’s not chocolate mousse!

May 16, 2010, at 10:05 pm | Even though our last furniture shopping excursion was an adventure I never wanted to repeat, necessity forced Jim and I to take another stab at the two-toddlers-in-tow shopping experience. But this time, I was ready. Instead of coming empty handed, I packed an arsenal of snacks (and hoped nobody considered it overly gauche to leave a trail of Kix in our wake). Instead of letting them run amok among the ottomans and entertainment centers, we buckled them into their stroller and refused to listen to their fervent pleas for release. Instead of going at bedtime, we went at naptime…I know, I know, not our smartest move. But we were squeezed for time and hoped sufficient amounts of sugary cereal would spike their energy levels into forgetting about their normal naptime.
All in all, it was a successful trip. We went to two different locations, and it wasn’t until halfway through the second store that the girls hit their internal good behavior quota and started accompanying their longing stares out the windows with insistent (and loud) whines to “GO! GO! GO!†I don’t blame the poor things – it’s not like examining the umpteenth couch for the umpteenth time has a lot of intrinsic interest to anybody, let alone a toddler.
About two minutes after we piled into the car following our purchase of a sofa set, I looked in the backseat and saw that Becky had already called it quits:
Susie, on the other hand, was more contemplative:
She subsequently requested some reading material, and engrossed herself in a furniture brochure:
I can only assume that Becky finds shopping just as exhausting as I do, and Susie somehow inherited my mother’s endless enthusiasm for sales. Maybe next time I’ll send Susie into the store to charm the salesman into a good deal, while Becky and I nap in the car!
May 15, 2010, at 11:09 pm | The girls attended their first surprise party this evening, and although I couldn’t get them to yell “Surprise!†for our friend Sarah’s entrance to her birthday party, they happily hammed it up for the rest of the night.
Thanks so much to our friends Bill, Anne Marie and Kaitlyn for putting on such a great party – and thanks to Sarah for being born, so we could have another reason to eat lots of dessert!
Adoring friends + Cake + Ice Cream = Happy Girls!

May 14, 2010, at 9:12 pm | We were very sad to say goodbye to our relatives yesterday. We can’t thank them enough for driving all the way up to Connecticut to spend time with us. I’m pretty sure a lifetime bond was formed between my little girl twins and the big girl twins.
I hope my girls will one day be as kind and generous as Megan and Emily. And I pray that my girls will be best friends with each other, just like those sisters. I can’t wait to hear Becky and Susie whispering away in the back seat, or snuggling up with each other on the couch. Right now, I’ll just take a shared toy now and then! But seriously, Megan and Emily – you are an inspiration to me, and a huge help with my girls. I look forward to the next time we are all together!

May 13, 2010, at 10:31 pm | Becky is doomed to be an athlete.
I don’t say “doomed†because I’m not a sports fan, or because I’m opposed to my daughter playing them, but because the poor child doesn’t seem to have a choice in the matter.
I have two reasons for my admittedly premature conclusion.
First off, Becky has had a strange skin infection between her toes for the last few months. It’s responded to an over-the-counter cream, but she’s had repeated, unexplained outbreaks. The doctor examined her today and diagnosed her with – you guessed it – athlete’s foot.
Secondly, even though Becky has excellent coordination (at least, compared to her sister), she always seems to fall and bonk her noggin. She took a particularly hard spill a few days ago, and although she brushed off the injury after a brief crying session, she ended up with quite the mark on her head.
This mark looks suspiciously familiar.
I think she’s been branded by Nike.

May 12, 2010, at 10:51 pm | We had a busy, full day with our extended family, so I didn’t get a chance to take out the camera very often. But in lieu of new pictures, I’m posting a video I took on Sunday of our girls singing along with their dad to a Sunday School song. For those keeping track, Susie is the quiet one in the video and Becky’s the one cracking up at the hilarity of it all. I think she’d rather be a comedian than a singer!
May 11, 2010, at 11:04 pm | Jim’s cousin and her family are visiting us from West Virginia, and we’re delighted to have her identical twin daughters here to keep my girls entertained. My girls think it’s heavenly to each have their own big girl cousin around. And I tend to agree – nothing’s better than having two sets of eager helping hands!

May 10, 2010, at 10:15 pm | Okay, I know the glasses already made their blog debut, but I couldn’t help but post a few more pictures of the girls sporting their new eyewear. Especially because the girls found red purses to match their red glasses.
Susie: “Do my new accessories make me look like a big girl?â€
Susie: “Or how about artistic? Do they make me look like a trendy Magnadoodle artist?â€
Becky (on right): “Nah, you still look like normal old you. But brighten up – you also look like me!â€
Becky (on right): “Don’t be upset – it’s a good thing! I think I’m pretty cute!â€

ABOUT US I'm blessed to be saved by the grace of God, loved by my wonderful husband Jim, and embraced by my twin girls, Rebecca Faith and Susanna Joy and my sons Jimmy and Danny. I started this blog in May 2008 when I was hospitalized for pre-term labor at 24 weeks gestation. The Lord allowed me to keep the girls inside until they were 34 weeks along, and on July 27th, Rebecca made her debut, followed by Susanna, five minutes later, on July 28th. We ecstatically welcomed Jimmy into our lives on April 25th, 2011, and Danny on August 31, 2012. This blog has been a personal journal of faith and motherhood and the only way I can remember which child did what and when. Thanks for stopping by to share in my Faith and Joy! Feel free to e-mail me at: [email protected].
