What happens when mama gets cabin fever, throws all the kids into the car, goes through the McDonald’s drive-thru, gets her daughters each their own milkshake and tosses a chocolate chip cookie back at her eldest son? You get one happy, messy little man! (And a happy mama because now she’s had her iced coffee for the day!)

Jimmy: “Hi! My mom is trying to get us to sit still for Christmas pictures. Good luck with that! I think she just better settle with a close-up of ME!” Okay, I promise this is the last post about our Tennessee trip. The vacation was just so much fun, I can’t get enough of the pictures! Here are the girls coloring on the way down. We go through more than our fair share of coloring books and crayons around these parts:

While Jim stayed in the RV with the boys, Mom, Dad and I took the girls to their first live performance, a Christmas special at the Smoky Mountain Opry. What a great night!

I almost forgot to post about the best part of our Tennessee trip – visiting with Jim’s extended family! On our way back, we stopped at the home of Jim’s aunt and uncle and got to see some of his cousins and their children (including another set of twins). It was so nice to be together, even if it was only for one night. The kids thought they were in heaven, since there were other kids and a multitude of animals running around. It was crazy, but it was so much fun! Here is Megan soothing Danny with her magic touch:

Contrary to the girls’ initial expectations, the Dollywood theme park was not full of dolls. But I’m happy to say, they liked it anyway! It was a very, very cold evening, so we didn’t stay as long as we would have liked, but we still had a wonderful time there. The whole park was decorated for Christmas, and the lights were spectacular. The girls were especially thrilled by all the pink and purple lights, and by the fact that their Bubba won them two large plush reindeer at a carnival game. Who has ever heard of winning TWO large prizes at those games? Way to go, Bubba!
Our Tennessee Thanksgiving day was a welcome departure from our normal stuff-our-faces-with-turkey-then-sit-on-the-couch routine. Instead, we stuffed our faces with Tony Roma’s steak and then rode bikes in the sunshine. No prep-work or clean-up necessary! Here are the girls dancing by the river at our campsite after our meal:
And to give you a sense of the carefree spirit of the day, here’s a clip of Becky twirling and singing to herself: Even though he’s not quite twirling yet, Danny enjoyed the day, too (doesn’t he look like he ate his fill of steak and maybe snuck a few turkey legs in there to boot?!)!
