November 13, 2013, at 10:02 pm | Gone are the days I worried about my kids making messes.
It’s taken me four children to figure it out, but I’ve finally realized that kids – and kitchens – are washable!
Below are pictures of the boys playing with the paste I let them make with flour and water and paint. It definitely wasn’t our cleanest activity, but it was one of their favorites!

November 12, 2013, at 10:34 pm | I was minding my own business in the laundry room when I heard someone behind me. I turned to discover that the construction paper fun had continued!
Here’s Becky announcing: “I’m crying.”

And: “I need a tissue.”

And finally, “My glasses broke.”

November 11, 2013, at 10:02 pm | After my girls saw some pictures of construction paper costumes created by my cousins’ daughters, they have been begging me to let them follow suit. Who am I to stand in the way of the creative process? So I got them supplies and left them to their own devices. In the last two days, armed with a pad of colored construction paper, scissors and oodles of scotch tape, they have…
…turned a horse into a unicorn:

Made functional masks (in addition to fairy wings, which were taped to their backs):

Decorated their window:

And recreated the characters from Eric Carle’s “Brown Bear, Brown Bear” (you’ll see a red bird, green frog, brown-ish bear, purple cat, black dog, gold fish, blue horse, yellow duck, and white sheep):

I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
November 10, 2013, at 10:29 pm | It’s a good thing Danny doesn’t mind serving as his sisters’ personal dress-up doll!

November 8, 2013, at 9:06 pm | Even though he’s been walking for five months now (since 11 months old), Danny has recently re-discovered his love for baby walkers. And I re-discovered my love for putting funny glasses and hats on my kids.

November 7, 2013, at 8:23 pm | Having four kids over to play with your four kids makes for some hilarious pile-ups!
(And no, no one was injured in this particular kid traffic jam!)

Jimmy: “This looks like a leaf blower.”
(On a side note, last weekend Jim told Jimmy he was going to go out and use the leaf blower to clean up the yard, and Jimmy kept asking how his dad was going to get high enough. Jim finally figured out Jimmy thought the leaf blower was supposed to blow the leaves off the trees!)
November 5, 2013, at 10:10 pm | Sometimes when I ask the girls to describe a picture they just drew, I’m reminded of the adage “If you ask a stupid question, expect a stupid answer.” Cases in point:
Susie: “It was a bad green day. The wizard made everything green. Because his favorite color was green.”

Becky: “I am dressed up as a pyramid and the pyramid says no.”
November 4, 2013, at 10:03 pm | I was so touched the other day when Becky excitedly pulled me aside to show me a poem she had written all by herself after hearing one I had written. Not only did I love the fact she had done her best to sound out the words and rhyme the stanzas, but I also loved her sentiments. What a blessing to me she is!
Translation tips (she switches some “P’s” and “R’s”, and writes “My” for “Me” and omits about half the vowels in most words – not bad for not being able to independently write a single word a few months ago!):
I love my family.
They take care of me.
They put me to bed safely.
My mommy loves me.
My dad is funny.
God loves our family.
God blesses our family.
Now we are happy.

ABOUT US I'm blessed to be saved by the grace of God, loved by my wonderful husband Jim, and embraced by my twin girls, Rebecca Faith and Susanna Joy and my sons Jimmy and Danny. I started this blog in May 2008 when I was hospitalized for pre-term labor at 24 weeks gestation. The Lord allowed me to keep the girls inside until they were 34 weeks along, and on July 27th, Rebecca made her debut, followed by Susanna, five minutes later, on July 28th. We ecstatically welcomed Jimmy into our lives on April 25th, 2011, and Danny on August 31, 2012. This blog has been a personal journal of faith and motherhood and the only way I can remember which child did what and when. Thanks for stopping by to share in my Faith and Joy! Feel free to e-mail me at: [email protected].
