Isn’t it true that the youngest kid does anything for a laugh!? Danny was making faces in the shower glass while his siblings egged him on. You can just make out the girls’ giggly reflection in the bath. It was quite the in-tub entertainment! The boys and I made a trip last week to New York to visit my friend Lauri and her daughter. It was a gorgeous, hot day, and we all enjoyed being outside. Who would have thought we’d need tank tops in October?! (Oh, and speaking of clothing choices, just in case anyone out there is super observant, do NOT read anything into Danny’s shirt logo which says “Big Brother.” It’s simply a hand-me-down from his big brother!).
Some days are just backwards days! (Yes, Jimmy put on his own clothes this day, although I have been known to occasionally put a child’s pants on backwards….and shoes on the wrong feet…and shirts on inside-out…although not typically at the same time!). On Saturday, we got to slow down, enjoy the view, go on a hayride, pick a pumpkin, climb a tractor, feed some goats, and eat more than a few apple fritters. And do it all with an awesome friend and sweet kids (one of whom may or may not be pantsless because I forgot to pack a spare outfit!). It was a beautiful day!
The cat that ate the canary: Or at least, the peanut butter! I guess I learned my lesson that, while he’s pretty good at making his own PB&J sandwiches under my guiding hand and watchful eye, Jimmy’s not quite at the point where he can be trusted alone with the open jars while I tend to something else! He guided his own hands right into the peanut butter, got his mouth so full he couldn’t talk, then turned his eyes to the jelly and helped himself. He’s such a goober! (Hey, maybe that’s where Smuckers got their idea for Goober peanut butter and jelly mix!). They must be getting older – the kids can actually build a tower to completion before knocking it down! Alas, I don’t think Jimmy inherited his father’s mathematical or musical talents! We had the honor of hosting a preacher from North Ireland and his wife at our home last week, and we were thrilled to find that he was as wonderful with children as he was from the platform! His wife was equally as warm and kind. Anyone who’s willing to play with fuzzy caterpillars or twirl around with several kids in their arms is a keeper in my book – we were sad to say goodbye!
