Food Desert

The girls were very proud to show me their latest food creation: a “desert” they made out of cheese, grapes, and half-eaten cucumbers.  They informed me the cheese was the sand, the cucumbers were bushes, and the grapes were groundhogs.  I may not have to work on their imagination, but I do think I need to work on their grasp of animal habitats!

Gardens

Last weekend, we took a hike to a community garden.  Both the walk, and the gardens, were beautiful, and the kids enjoyed seeing everything growing.  Susie especially enjoyed the flowers, and Danny loved his Pappy’s walking stick!

(Thanks to Alli for these last four pictures – it’s so nice having a real photographer around!).

Jet Setters

What can make a sunny Saturday on the lake even better?  Getting to use a friend’s jet ski!  We had a great day!

Quotes

Danny, in the direction of Jimmy: “Doodie!” (translation: Susie)

Jimmy: “I’m not Susie.”

Danny: “Why?”

Jimmy: “Because I’m Jimmy.”

******

Susie: “I’m not a tomboy, I’m a tomgirl.”

******

Becky, asking about a single friend of ours: “Does [friend] have a wife?”

Jimmy quickly responded: “No, he just has a jet ski.”

*******

Jimmy: “Lets have a race, to see who can get oldest first.”

******

While we were at a store checkout buying notebooks for the girls, Susie proudly held up her purchase to the cashier and announced, “Mom let us get a quiet thing because we’re pretty loud.”

******

Susie, exasperated, while we were playing on the swingset: “Oh great, there’s wood chips in my shoe.”

Her comment led me to a brief discussion with the kids about sarcasm.  As an example, I pointed to an imaginary insect and said, “Oh that’s a beautiful bug,” and then I explained that it was really an “ugly bug,” but I was being sarcastic.  Jimmy thought for a moment, and then yanked off his shoe in mock anger and yelled, “There’s something in my shoe, YOU UGLY BUG!”

Slumber Party

Jimmy got to have a “slumber party” at his Bubba and Pappy’s house with cousin Alli.  He enjoyed their undivided attention, played Alli’s makeshift miniature golf course, and ate pancakes and bacon to his heart’s delight.  Now the other kids are clamoring for their turns!

Two More Teeth

The tooth fairy has been busy around here.  Becky lost two more teeth in one weekend!

Garden Gathering

We were blessed to spend a recent evening with Jim’s Uncle Jeff and Aunt Mary.  The kids even ate out of Mary’s bountiful garden.  Now if only I could get the kids to eat peapods at home! 😉

Fireworks and Friends

Here are a few more pictures of our 4th of July weekend, thanks to Alli:

I want to preface this picture by assuring everybody that wakesurfing with a toddler is quite safe!  We’re going at a very slow speed, and Jim has great balance.  Danny loves it!

Mom and Jimmy, on the lake on July 5th.  We didn’t get to go out until the evening, but what a beautiful evening it was!
