My Tool Man Turns Four

Remember this picture from last year, when poor little Jimmy didn’t have any tool belts or safety equipment?

Well, Grammie took the hint last year and got the child equipment in spades!  And now here he is all decked out, a year later, a big FOUR YEAR OLD.  How did that time pass so quickly?!

Jimmy, you are such a delight to be around.  You are as energetic and eager to please as a puppy, as cuddly as a kitten (which you like to pretend to be often!), you are curious and sweet and chivalrous and goofy and incredibly helpful.  I can’t get over how blessed we are to have you in our family.  We love you!

Saying Goodbyes

It was so, so hard to say goodbye to all my California family.  We were so thankful for all the time and effort everyone put into making our visit so wonderful!  Becky put it well when she told me the day we left: “I wish I could just snap my fingers and in a blink of an eye, be at Grammie’s house.  Then I could snap my fingers and be at Jon and Kate’s house (their cousins).  Then I could snap my fingers and we would be at Bubba’s house.  And we would be all together.  That is my dream for my whole life.”  Mine too, kiddo!

Exploratorium Excitement

Now that the girls are getting older (that is, old enough I don’t have to constantly chase them, corral them, or worry about them climbing random objects), I’m excited that we can go to fun museums like the Exploratorium in San Francisco.  It was our last hoorah in California, and it was a great capstone to our trip!

Here are the girls with my parents and sister waiting for the BART train:

Grandpa led the way once we got into the city:

You never know what you’re going to see on the streets of SF – perhaps a roving band of bagpipers!

After a brief walk from the Ferry Building, we got to the museum’s new waterfront location:

The girls got right to work exploring every nook and cranny of the massive museum.

Even the cafeteria was typical off-beat San Francisco – who ever heard of water in a box?

Although most of the scientific explanations went over their heads, the girls still enjoyed playing with all the exhibits.  And so did I!

We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day in the city!

Birthday Bash

For the first time in well over a decade, I got to spend my birthday at my childhood home.  My mom went all-out for the celebration, blowing up balloons, making a photo collage, getting me my favorite Chinese take-out and cake, and bringing some of my favorite people (like my Uncle Bruce and Aunt Maureen) to celebrate with me! She even brought out an old family heirloom – a rocking chair built by my great-grandfather – so the girls could enjoy it.  I couldn’t have asked for more!

Tea Time

My sister Angie drove into town to spend the weekend with us while we were visiting my parent’s house, so my mom had the great idea for us girls to all go out to a fancy tea room together.  It was so much fun!  The girls kept saying, “We’ve never been anyplace this fancy before!”  It was the perfect outing with my beloved mom and sister and daughters.

GiGi’s House

There aren’t many places on earth that I love more than my grandparents’ houses, so I was so happy to take my girls to visit my Gramma (whom they call GiGi).  We spent a delightful afternoon reading books, bringing out my childhood toys, and enjoying one another’s company.  Gramma, thank you for yet again another wonderful memory of you and your home!

Fairyland

We couldn’t visit California without going to Oakland’s Fairlyand!  It’s one of my earliest and fondest childhood memories, and I’m so happy my girls remembered it so well from their last visit.  They even insisted on wearing the same fairy wings they did last time.  We all loved it!

California, Here We Come

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen my girls as excited for something as they were for our girls’ getaway to California.  They talked about it for a solid month and were positively giddy about every aspect of the trip, from the plane ride, to seeing family, to all the planned activities.  Of course, I was just as excited about it as they were (if maybe not quite as verbose)!

Here we are getting ready to board the plane.  California, here we come!

The girls were on their best behavior the entire time, and even though the jet-lag caused them to get up before the sun every morning of the vacation, we made the most of it and kept them busy!  They collapsed into bed every night as very happy campers.

Here we are at a wildlife museum.  We especially loved seeing the live owls.  I was delighted to unexpectedly run into my best friend from middle school there at the museum with her kids – it made the afternoon even more wonderful!

Dentist Visit

Jimmy had his first visit to the dentist recently and he did really well – no cavities!  He sat like a pro, opened wide on cue, and loved spitting in the little sink.

But we couldn’t let Jimmy have ALL the fun.  Pappy decided to take Danny out for lunch during Jimmy’s appointment.  Danny was quite pleased with the arrangement!

Girl Trip

Guess where the girls and I just spent a wonderful vacation?  In California with Grammie, Grandpa, Aunt Angie, and Uncle Bruce and Aunt Maureen!  More pictures to come!
