January 29, 2020, at 11:04 pm | Me: “Tazie, what would you do if you saw a coyote in the yard?” (since we had just seen one that morning!)
Tazie, unfazed: “Jimmy would shoot it with his baby gun.”
(She meant BB gun)
*************
Tazie doesn’t like it when I sing, dance or clap while she’s listening to music. But apparently she needs an even greater level of compliance from me during music listening, because she turned to me when her favorite song was playing and said, “Mama, please don’t blink.”
************
I was in a department store at the mall and I had tasked Danny with keeping an eye on Tazie while I picked out a gift for someone. A few minutes later, I turned around and saw her standing on a platform between all the mannequins in the shop window while Danny stood by helplessly. I hurried over to pull her out of there and started scolding her. But she said, “It’s OK, Danny was watching me!”
************
Susie: “I’m outstanding.”
Tazie: “No, you’re not standing. You’re sitting!”
*********
I’ve been cracking down on Tazie’s tendency to repeat rude words that her siblings use (that they aren’t supposed to use, either!). One morning, I heard her softly mutter “Jerk” under her breath, and when she saw my glare, she quickly reassured me, “I’m not saying you’re a jerk, mama, I’m saying you AREN’T a jerk. You’re a pretty, pretty mama.”
January 27, 2020, at 9:23 pm | Here are the last of the Christmas pics. It’s so fun looking back through them!
Tazie’s holding up the box that Becky painted – the top features a “T” and the side is a picture of the three sisters together. 🙂

Jim displaying the shirt I found for him. It cracks me up!

Susie grinning in delight at the enormous Lego set she received:

Jim’s new wood-cutting chaps to prevent any chainsaw injuries!

Danny’s new much-anticipated RC car:

Jimmy holding up the gift he gave to himself (he’s always thinking, that kid!):

Becky looking very festive:

The girls in their new knit hats:

A post-Christmas game of pick-up sticks – Pappy is the champion! Who knew steady mechanic hands were such an asset in kids’ games?

And lastly, I had to document my “Yule Log” dessert that I spent hours making from scratch, only to have it only taste just okay. Live and learn (and remember that nothing pleases my crowd like box-mix brownies!)

January 24, 2020, at 11:37 pm | After breakfast, it was finally the time the kids had been waiting for! As always, we grouped the presents by person and then each person took turns opening one at a time. It was so fun to see everyone’s faces light up!

Here’s Susie displaying the sign that Becky commissioned Grandpa to carve, and then she painted for her sister:
And Jimmy holding up the card Becky made for him. Cracks me up!

Tazie REALLY got into Christmas this year, and loved absolutely everything she opened!

Most of the kids picked out their own gifts for family members, so it was so fun to see them excited about the act of giving, as well as receiving!
Here’s Jimmy with his new fishing pole:

And Susie with her Newton’s Cradle she really wanted!

More present pics to come!
January 23, 2020, at 10:36 pm | On Christmas morning, the kids were more than ready to tear into their stockings once we gave them the go-ahead!

I love that the kids get so excited about socks and office supplies!
And, of course, lots of candy 🙂

We had our favorite Christmas breakfast of egg cups, french toast casserole, and fruit salad.
Oh, and I made an extra side of bacon for the boys. It was Christmas, after all!
January 22, 2020, at 10:47 pm | I’m now almost a month late posting Christmas pictures, ack! Here’s a few!
We loved having our annual Christmas Eve dinner at my in-laws’ house, along with Jim’s Aunt and Uncle and dear friends from church.

The kids were as eager as ever to dive into their gifts!

Aunt Mary once again got the kids the BEST outfits!

Love those desserts (I may have loved all the desserts a little too much)!

Then we came home, wrestled the kids into bed, and set about setting up for the big day. Here are the stockings ready for the morning:
And all the gifts ready around the tree. We kept saying we were going to go “lighter” this year on gifts, but I don’t think we managed it!
January 20, 2020, at 11:10 pm | Tazie walked up to me and exclaimed, “Look, Mom! Glove feet!”

This kid cracks me up, especially since she wasn’t wearing anything on her top half at the time!

January 13, 2020, at 9:48 pm | I still haven’t gotten the chance to go through Christmas pics, but here are some snapshots from the biggest hits:
Jim got the kids the slap-happy card game “Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza” – they LOVE IT!

We received a generous gift from friends who knew our kids loved Legos and motorcycles. So fun!
And perhaps the biggest hit of all was a gag gift that Jim bought for me – a two-pack of Comfy wearable blankets! They’re these enormous super-thick hooded sweatshirts, and they’ve been so popular among the kids that I scarcely get a turn to wear one! 😉

January 12, 2020, at 10:11 pm | Well, it’s been way too long since I’ve posted to this blog, so for my first post of 2020, I thought it was fitting to announce that the kids have a new cousin! My sister Angie had a sweet baby girl in late December, and since I was sooo anxious to meet my new niece in person, we took the weekend after Christmas to drive down to Virginia to visit them! It was such a wonderful trip!
We are in love!

Jim took the big kids out for a drive on Saturday morning so I could spend a few hours with my sister and my mom (and of course, my niece!). They were all smiles – especially since they picked up two dozen Krispy Kreme donuts!

On the way back home, we drove by Ocean City, Maryland, to see how it stacked up against our favorite Ocean City, New Jersey. It was much bigger and boasted more restaurants and hotels, but we decided we all liked our little NJ boardwalk best. 😉

December 1, 2019, at 9:58 pm | Danny is the type of kid who isn’t in a hurry to grow up. He’s just fine having me help him with stuff, like cutting up his food. That is, until he received a survival kit that included a multi-tool with utensils. Suddenly, cutting up pancakes is a matter of survival! Go, Danny!

ABOUT US I'm blessed to be saved by the grace of God, loved by my wonderful husband Jim, and embraced by my twin girls, Rebecca Faith and Susanna Joy and my sons Jimmy and Danny. I started this blog in May 2008 when I was hospitalized for pre-term labor at 24 weeks gestation. The Lord allowed me to keep the girls inside until they were 34 weeks along, and on July 27th, Rebecca made her debut, followed by Susanna, five minutes later, on July 28th. We ecstatically welcomed Jimmy into our lives on April 25th, 2011, and Danny on August 31, 2012. This blog has been a personal journal of faith and motherhood and the only way I can remember which child did what and when. Thanks for stopping by to share in my Faith and Joy! Feel free to e-mail me at: [email protected].
