There’s something about seeing all the kids’ school pictures lined up that’s just surreal. How do I have FIVE kids old enough to have school pictures?!?
I don’t know if it’s the age or what, but I just love taking snapshots of Tazie through the day. She makes me smile! Here she is waking up from a nap, cuddling her Violet:
And here she is being very proud of her Magna-Tile design:
And here she is helping me do the dishes. She’s a very eager helper in the kitchen!
Here’s our Halloween pics, only a few weeks late! Here’s the gang enjoying their cards from Grammie: Here’s our Power Ranger Danny:
Our princess Belle, a.k.a. Tazie (it wasn’t exactly the ideal undershirt for the dress, but we were running late and it was what she chose so I ran with it!):
Susie the Griffin (an outfit she’s been planning and assembling for a long time now!):
My sweet Panda Becky who just loves wearing the warmest possible costume:
And last but not least, Jim as the intrepid Davy Crockett:
Here we are with Bubba and Pappy getting ready to brave the rainy night in search of candy! The best line of the night came from Tazie soon after we hit the first few houses. She was making a quick beeline for the next house, saw the rest of us straggling behind, and called over her shoulder: “Come on peeps, this is no time for talking!”
Love it when friends come over who can play with two kids at once – it makes everyone’s lives easier! And it’s also nice to see the foosball table getting used so it’s not just gathering dust in the basement! The four boys eventually moved on to a game of dodgeball where they tried to hit each other with ping pong balls…kids are certainly creative at coming up with new ways to make messes!
Our house is never lacking in brotherly competition. Last week, the boys fashioned themselves swords out of cardboard and painters’ tape and had a good old-fashioned duel.
After realizing duels are much more fun with an audience, they moved their fight to the playroom and recruited some fans (including a damsel in distress who was an enthusiastic cheerleader in her princess gown): Beginning with a customary salute: And then attack! I don’t know who won, but they were all smiles! It won’t be long before I can retire from breakfast and dessert-making, thanks to the efforts of my industrious kids! Jim is quite the pancake professional, as you can see from his focused efforts below:
And Becky is a chocolate dessert-maker extraordinaire! Now if only I could get them to take on the laundry! I had to post this picture because it’s what I see across the table from me every weekday morning and I love it so much! The girls come downstairs at 6:30, fully dressed but barely awake, plop themselves down in their chairs and open their books, and read silently while they eat their Eggo waffles (with peanut butter for Susie and Nutella for Becky). Then after I’ve let them wake up a few minutes, I read our morning devotions and pray with them. Then they set about packing up for the bus. We really are creatures of habit! While I wish they didn’t have to get up so early, it’s a precious time to spend with my big girls!
I was blessed to be able to attend some school functions for the boys this past month. I just love getting to hang out with the kids in school! I chaperoned Danny’s class as they visited various local sites, such as the firehouse and town hall. Here’s Danny getting a peek inside a fire truck’s tool box:
And seeing a police dog obey commands (amazing!): I also got to attend a class party for Jim. Here he is playing “pin-the-mouth-on-the-skeleton.” A little to the right, kiddo! A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of chaperoning Jim’s 3rd grade class on their field trip to an outdoor nature center. The kids had a blast hiking:
learning about compasses and orienteering: throwing rocks in a stream:
getting wildlife lessons on pond animals: and having free reign to build forts in the woods: The kids had a blast, and so did the adults! |
