More Ice Cream Museum photo ops!

California Pics 4

When we got home from Pier 39, we were able to catch our breath for a little bit…

…and relax with the cat…

…and then we got to have a visit from my dear high school friends!  These are girls I haven’t seen in almost TWENTY years, and they still are exactly the same wonderful girls!!!

And one of them brought her kids with her, and I loved seeing all the kids enjoying being together.  It was such a perfect end to the day!

The next day, we drove back into San Francisco to visit the Ice Cream Museum.  I know, it was as good as it sounds!  The whole place was chock-full of ice cream facts and photo ops and lots and lots of sweets to eat!

Here we are getting ready to enter the museum (having a snack, as we didn’t realize how well we’d be fed once we were inside!):

Then, let the fun and games begin!

So many more pictures of the museum to come!

The jailhouse audio tour was just as riveting as I had remembered.

Maybe too riveting for the kids!

Can’t imagine being in solitary confinement!

We even got to meet a former prisoner who was incarcerated at Alcatraz for three years.  I felt kind of funny asking an ex-criminal if my kids could take a picture with him, but I did it anyway!

We didn’t leave anyone behind!

We had beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge from the ferry:

And of course, we had to take a quick stop to say hello to the Pier 39 sea lions!

The next day, we all piled into my parents’ friend’s SUV and drove into San Francisco to visit Alcatraz and Pier 39.

The kids enjoyed the ferry ride just as much as the prison tour!

I hadn’t been back to Alcatraz since I was a kid, so it was so good to see it again as an adult, now that I can appreciate all the history.

The kids were so excited to finally be at my parents’ house after a long day of traveling.  The boys barely remember being there, as they only had a brief visit for my sister’s wedding two years ago, and otherwise hadn’t been since Danny was a baby.  So we had lots of bonding to do, especially with Grammie’s cats – Lucy and Ethel!

And of course, some BBQ-ing to do with Grandpa:

We even got to have a picnic inside what will soon be the new addition:

And they had to sign their names for posterity’s sake!

I just love getting to see my kids relax with their grandparents at their house!  I’ve been thinking lately about my amazing memories of times my sister and I spent at our grandparents’ houses, and I’m so thankful that my kids get to make those memories too.

California, here we come!

For the kids’ spring break, we went in search of warmer temperatures!  I flew with the four big kids to see my parents in California while Jim and his mom held down the fort with Tazie at home.  We had such a wonderful (eventful!) time in California.  So many pictures to come!!

First Grade Concert

Jimmy had to dress up in a hat and sunglasses for the first grade concert a few weeks ago.  Here’s the big man on campus waiting for the bus that morning:

And we can’t forget big man #2:

It was such a great concert!

Some Assembly Required

It’s so nice when your kids are finally old enough to read assembly instructions and put together presents for their siblings by themselves!

Voila!  Tazie loves her new water table from Grammie and Grandpa!

Easter 2018

Here are our Easter pictures from a few weeks ago!  I dropped the ball on doing any formal Easter outfits or pictures this year, but we all still had a great day!

Here are the eggs we dyed a few days prior to Easter (the kids loved pretending they were Dragon Eggs!)

And here are the gifts I set out for the kids to find in the morning.  I had intended not to get them very much…but then I saw all sorts of cute stuff I wanted them to have, ha!

The kids were thrilled with their baskets – you know they’re my kids when they’re stoked to receive mechanical pencils, journals and pillows!

Oh, and of course, lollipops:

Here’s a shot of Becky hiding the “golden egg” she prepared in honor of Easter falling on April Fool’s Day.  She cleverly concealed a bunch of sundried tomatoes in a gold-colored plastic egg, and then had her Bubba hide it during the egg hunt.  So the lucky golden egg finder (who happened to be Susie) expected something yummy and ended up with something gross instead!!  Thankfully Susie has a great sense of humor!

The kids really enjoyed the egg hunt, golden egg and all, and Tazie was very happy when she realized there was candy inside each egg.  Once she opened the first one and saw the candy, she had to be convinced to stop eating for long enough to find more!

Then the kids burned off their sugar high on the swings:

It was the perfect day!
