The girls made these greeting cards for our family. I love how they capture their personalities and also their diverging interests – Susie would rather be in the snow, Becky in the sun!
Danny (talking about spending money as a grown-up): “I don’t want to keep my money. I want to give my money away – to someone who can buy motorcycles for me.” ******** Me to Jimmy, seeing him turn and walk bare-bottomed out of the bathroom after having only just entered it: “Why aren’t you going in there?” Jimmy: “I can’t. There’s a bug in there. I need privacy.” ******* Me: “Danny, can you put these puzzle pieces together for me?” Danny: “I a worker. I can handle anything you want me to.” ******* Jimmy: “I’m glad I’m a boy because I can pee anywhere.” ****** Danny, after hearing me sing “On Top of Spaghetti”: “I love you, Mom. Don’t roll away with your meatball.” ****** Jimmy, talking about villainous characters in a story: “They’re BAD guys. That’s why they call them ‘bad guys.’” ****** Susie: “People who wear glasses don’t blink.” Danny recently had his first visit to the dentist. He did very well! He was cavity free, which was a big relief since he’s not exactly a thorough teeth-brusher. Jimmy was very eager to show Danny how everything worked in the dental office!
Oh, and here’s a tip – if you ever want a super fast dental cleaning, bring along two little boys to your appointment. The hygienist cleaned my teeth at warp speed, since the boys were declaring war on each other only a few feet from my head, and I couldn’t verbally reprimand them since my mouth was being worked on! Jimmy looks so responsible here, doesn’t he?
But I’m not sure I can call any driver “responsible” who likens driving to rollercoaster riding! They may be reckless drivers, but they sure are cute!
We had a fun Halloween trick-or-treating with our in-laws and our friend Julie. Becky dressed up as a princess, Susie was a “musher” (that is, a dog sled driver), Jimmy was a SWAT policeman, and Danny was a Storm Trooper. It was a wonderful, sugar-filled night! Here are the girls trying on their costumes earlier: And here’s the big night:
And last but not least, here’s the all-important candy inventory and trading ritual: Sometimes the morning walk to the bus stop is the prettiest time of the day!
See the moon in this last picture? The kids were the ones who spotted it that morning. So beautiful in the bright blue sky! When brushing Susie’s hair, I never cease to be amazed by all the natural variations in her hair color. Yet another thing to love about the beauty of youth – not only joints that don’t creak, but highlights you don’t have to pay for!
Jim: “I’m guarding my oatmeal.”
I think the box-defense-system would fit the bill when you can’t get your morning cup of coffee – it keeps the world out for a few minutes while you collect yourself for the day – or guard your breakfast from hungry passersby! |
