Good Cop

Here’s a sneak preview of Danny’s Halloween costume (and by the way, Danny doesn’t have the foggiest idea of what a Storm Trooper is, but he loved the getup nonetheless!).

Oh, and I’ll give you one guess as to what Jimmy chose for his costume based on the picture above – that’s right, a policeman!  Danny was dressed as a “bad guy” after all!

Jimmy in Preschool

Jimmy has started attending preschool two mornings a week.  So, for those hours, I have THREE children in school!  Cue the tears!

Jimmy has loved preschool even more than I thought he would.  I’m so proud of our big boy!

End of Summer Getaway

As our hot, humid weather slowly fades into fall, I look back on the last few months with joy.  We had a truly great summer (an article I read used the term “the summer of endless awesome,” which really does apply here)!  As a last hoorah before school started,  we took the kids on a quick RV camping trip to the shore.  It was one of those nights where the sunset just kept getting more and more picturesque.  We had a delicious dinner grilled by Pappy, we rode bikes around the campground, the kids frolicked in the sand and waves with Bubba, Jim and I took turns paddleboarding as the sun went down, and then we roasted marshmallows for s’mores around a campfire.  It couldn’t get much more idyllic. Here are some of the pictures – more to come tomorrow!

Quotes

Earlier this summer, Becky came bounding up to me and happily announced she had figured it out.  I asked her what she was talking about, and she explained that she was pretty sure she knew why someone had named the days of the week Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, etc.  Here is her (I think) brilliant conclusion:

Sunday: Because it was really sunny and hot out when they named that day

Monday: They ate a lot of hot dogs (this one was a stretch – it’s because “Mon” rhymes with “Bun” and hot dogs have buns)

Tuesday: Their kid counted to two for the first time

Wednesdsay: There was a wedding (“Weds-day” is how she pronounces it)

Thursday: They were really thirsty

Friday: They ate a lot of fries

Saturday: They were really sad, or they explored Saturn for the first time

******

Given that the kids each have very different taste preferences, usually someone is unhappy with whatever I made for dinner, but I have a strict policy that the kids are all going to eat whatever I have cooked for Jim and myself – no separate meals.  So whenever I hear them whining about their dinner, I coach them that instead of the complaint, they should just say “thank you for the dinner.”  However, I’m not sure if the lesson got through to Danny yet.  The other night when he wasn’t thrilled with the food I put before him, he grimaced and said, “Thank you for this YUCKY dinner.”

As Danny ran past me making a beeline for his toy toolbox, he shouted, "I need my tools. I’m goin’ to Mexico!"

Me: “What are you going to do there?”

Danny: “Fix stuff.”

******

Me, to Danny: “Take off your wet socks so you don’t get the house all wet.”

Danny: “Because then we’d have to get a new house?”

******

Danny: “If you drink too much, you’ll turn into a water bottle.”

******

Me, wondering what a sound outside was: “Are those crickets?

Jimmy: “They’re definitely not rabbits!”

First Day of Second Grade

As of last week, we have two second graders.  That’s crazy!  I can’t believe my little girls are little ladies!  Here’s the posters we did for their first day of school.  And here are their posters for the last two years.  Time flies!

These Boots Were Made For Posing

Somebody was pretty excited about their new shoes…

And of course, they had to change their outfits to match their new footwear…

Danny was pretty pumped about his new Paw Patrol sneakers, too!

Enjoying the Ride

Three Year Old Danny

Danny, how can you, my baby, be three already?  You never cease to make me laugh and smile and want to wrap you up in a big bear hug.  Even when you’re throwing one of your volcano-like tantrums, I have a hard time not laughing at how adorable you are!  You love to wave and greet people in stores and at the park, and you bring smiles to everyone you meet.  You play independently better than any of the other kids at this age – as long as you have a few cars or trucks to zoom around, you can sit and entertain yourself forever (which is even more amazing to me, considering how clingy you were as an infant!).  You use your hands very well, putting together puzzles and blocks.  You LOVE to ride your glider bike, and you love how you can keep up with the big kids on their bikes.  You’re just starting to experiment with riding a scooter, and you’ve impressed me with your balance on that too!  You crave being outside, and you just started loving to swim, as long as you’re wearing your trusty life vest.  If Daddy is mowing the lawn, wild horses can’t keep you inside.  You want to be near any motorized vehicle, and you also want to be like Pappy and “fix” them.  You love to watch only three things – Blaze and the Monster Machines, Paw Patrol, and Planes: Fire & Rescue.  You have no time for any other television show or movie!  You sleep really well at night, and you still take a several-hour nap daily (although I have to make sure you have no toys or books in your crib during your naps, because you will inevitably play instead of sleep!).  You love to drink sweet drinks, like juice or lemonade, and eat sugary candy like lollipops, but you aren’t crazy about chocolate or cookies.  You love to talk, and even though you’re sometimes hard to understand (even though your tongue-tie was clipped, your tongue doesn’t quite do what it’s supposed to), your fluency is amazing and you can chatter on about anything!  You’re starting to potty train, but you’re in no rush, which is fine with me.  Sometimes diapers are just easier, especially when we’re out and about!  You love to help me cook – without fail, if you hear me clanging around in the kitchen, you come running in, drag a chair over, and ask how you can help.  Of course, your favorite part is licking the bowl!  Your laugh is absolutely infectious, especially your “evil laugh” – it’s impossible not to join in!  Oh Danny, I am just so enthralled with you, and I cherish every day I get to spend with you!
