The girls loved their bouncy seats when they were little, and it seems to run in the family! We recently decided to get a swing set for our backyard so the girls could have a something to entertain them outdoors on the days when I couldn’t manage to get three kids out of the house and to the local park. We bought a ready-to-assemble kit that came in several enormous boxes and contained elaborate instructions. My husband and father-in-law have started the construction process, and while the whole thing looks like an unsolvable jigsaw puzzle to me, the girls are undaunted by its complexity. They pitch in at every opportunity, and provide comic relief for Jim and his dad as they labor away. I hope the girls always take such pleasure in working with their hands. Jimmy received his first visitors to our home the last few days. Our neighbors were sweet enough to bring over a gift for Jimmy and bags full of goodies to entertain the girls. They were so thoughtful! And our friends Ashley and Uriah came over for a quick visit on Sunday. They also came bearing gifts – one that left Jim tickled pink…or should I say, tickled “black and yellow”! In the last few weeks, the girls’ artwork has gotten markedly better. When they draw people, they’re starting to make discernable heads, eyes, legs and arms. These body parts aren’t necessarily in the correct location and they certainly aren’t proportional, but nonetheless I’m excited at their progression. It was a bittersweet moment, since her dementia prevented her from knowing who it was she was meeting. She would have been so pleased to know that her husband’s name is living on to the fourth generation. Here she is with James Jr., James III and now James IV: Nana with her three youngest great-grandchildren: She may not have known his name…but I think she felt his love. |
