January 20, 2014, at 9:37 pm | We had a great visit with friends this weekend. I wish I could fill our house with such wonderful people all the time – I completely sympathized with my girls who cried buckets of tears when everyone left!
Here are the best buds Danny and Breton (they just don’t know it yet!):
Danny wondering whether he can trust Matea with the household toys:
Breton kept us all in stitches (the girls couldn’t get enough of him!):
Danny refereeing the ping pong competition:
Matea stole my heart!
(Her mama’s pretty fond of her kisses, too!)
Becky and her protégé – one day we’ll hopefully have these two out tube-riding together behind the boat!

January 16, 2014, at 9:29 pm | Today, Jimmy informed me I was supposed to respond to his requests with the following:
“Yes, Fireman Jim.”
Anything for you, buddy.
January 15, 2014, at 11:31 pm | It may have only been 45 degrees, but the boys and I managed to have a picnic this afternoon: in the garage!
Sunny days above freezing are a great excuse to be outside!
January 14, 2014, at 10:29 pm | Becky loves to wake up early and be able to eat breakfast by herself or with me alone (I don’t blame the child for wanting some peace and quiet to go with her Eggo waffles!). We’re both so happy when it works out that we are able to spend those few moments together before the wonderful chaos begins.
January 13, 2014, at 11:40 pm | Jimmy loves to take pictures with my phone camera and he always switches the filter to Black & White, which somehow makes all his random shots look much more artsy! Here’s the picture he took this afternoon while we were waiting in the front seat of the car for the girls to get off the bus. I love seeing his chubby little fingers in the rearview mirror (and I also love seeing temperatures that are well above freezing)!
January 12, 2014, at 8:23 pm | Jimmy has made some significant strides in the potty training department lately! For months, he’s gone about once or twice a day, but always wore diapers or pull-ups the rest of the day. Well, I decided to raise the stakes a little and told him that if he wore big boy underwear and went in the potty, I’d reward him with a pick out of our candy bowl after every 3 bathroom trips. He agreed, and I’m excited to say that in his first three days of wearing underwear (except for naps and night), he has had zero accidents! I ask him about every 30-60 minutes if he has go to, and he always obliges (the candy incentive is strong!). We also did a sticker chart the first day – the girls were eager to help him with it. They’re very good cheerleaders and teachers – Susie’s already exasperated by her brother leaving the seat up: “Jimmy, you left the thing up! I almost fell in!” It’s hard to believe it was exactly two years ago that the roles were reversed and it was Jimmy watching as the girls potty trained!
We’ll see how he progresses – he’s still very much doing this for the candy, but I’ll happily rot his teeth if it means I don’t have to change his diapers!
January 10, 2014, at 11:46 pm | My interior decorators struck again!
January 9, 2014, at 9:13 pm | The kids received a fun new game for Christmas called Headbanz. Each player wears a card on their head describing an object and has to ask questions of the other players to discover what that object is. It’s a little old for the girls right now (most of their questions consisted of “Am I a spoon?” “Am I turkey?”, rather than descriptive questions to narrow down the options) but it was a great game and they were starting to get the hang of it by the end.
The one who was NOT getting it, though, was Jimmy. As soon as someone put a card on their head, he blurted out what he saw, thus giving away the answer! No matter how hard we tried to convince Jimmy he was missing the point of the game, he just couldn’t contain his glee at announcing the surprise object. It reminded me of a few weeks ago when we went to the mall to buy Jim a bean bag chair/pillow for a Christmas present. I coached and coached and coached the kids that they were not supposed to tell their daddy what we got him. I told them just to tell their daddy we got him a “surprise.” Well, we weren’t home from the mall for five minutes before Jimmy ran up to Jim and excitedly hollered, “We got you a SURPRISE PILLOW!!!”
I suppose I ought to be glad he’s such a guileless young man – I just hope he gets a little better at holding his tongue!
January 8, 2014, at 10:31 pm | The girls received gift cards for the Build-A-Bear store from their Aunt Julie and Uncle Jon for Christmas, and we put them to good use this weekend. Susie chose to build a horse (she picked a wedding dress for it), and Becky chose a cat (with a bejeweled red and white stole). We also let Jimmy pick something, and he got an adorable puppy. He took the whole thing very seriously! The kids are all so excited with their new toys!
(Danny’s the only one actually following my instructions to look at the camera and say “cheese”!)

ABOUT US I'm blessed to be saved by the grace of God, loved by my wonderful husband Jim, and embraced by my twin girls, Rebecca Faith and Susanna Joy and my sons Jimmy and Danny. I started this blog in May 2008 when I was hospitalized for pre-term labor at 24 weeks gestation. The Lord allowed me to keep the girls inside until they were 34 weeks along, and on July 27th, Rebecca made her debut, followed by Susanna, five minutes later, on July 28th. We ecstatically welcomed Jimmy into our lives on April 25th, 2011, and Danny on August 31, 2012. This blog has been a personal journal of faith and motherhood and the only way I can remember which child did what and when. Thanks for stopping by to share in my Faith and Joy! Feel free to e-mail me at: [email protected].
